overlapping shows

Is the only way to handle overlapping shows is to assign a tuner to each show? It seems that if you leave the tuner selection to the program that some programs are missed.

Thanks

Re: overlapping shows

As long as you have enough tuners, none should be missed. The problem usually occurs when a network gets ornery. ABC, for example, loves to run their shows two minutes long. Forces the need for another tuner.

Re: overlapping shows

It would also help if you set the shows to use ANY channel for recording.

Re: overlapping shows

NBC is also intentionally ending some shows 1 minute after the hour or half hour. I have two tuners, but I have had conflicts reported when I am taping two shows and that 1 minute overlap causes a conflict (three shows, two tuners).

What would really be helpful is if I could edit a program guide entered show to change the start time to 1 minute in. I can't find a way to do that, short of setting up a manual recording.

Yeah, need more tuners.

Have you tried adding a buffer to the recordings to start 2 mins early and finish 2 mins late? This only works when you have enough tuners obviously, but generally fixes the early/late starts.

You can change the start/stop of an individual show in Web Admin/Setup Recordings/Edit a show and change the Start the recording or Stop the recording settings

Re: overlapping shows

The BeyondTV scheduling algorithm is very poor.

I have 4 analog tuners all with the same channel lineups. I record on exactly 3 channels every Tuesday.

BeyondTV found a way to produce a scheduling conflict.

I would suggest that if you are doing any "real" recording that you to assign each tuner to a different channel.

I completely disagree. George has issues that no one else sees. You need to let BTV handle the overlaps.

Uh... I use 1 minute before and after. But increasing the buffers would only increase the overlap. Anyway : BYTV ignores the buffers when there a conflict due to buffering.

That might work for single shows, but not for jobs where I want to record a first run. Those don't show up as individual entries. And I can't edit from the upcoming recordings menu, where they do show up as individual shows.

This setting is done at the recording job level, not at the single show level

Re: overlapping shows

Now that I have 5 Tuners set, I've spread out my shows amongst them all to allow the padding to take place. Monday is the worse with the most things on that we watch.

Re: overlapping shows

Monday is also the worse for me right now. Have 3 turners and Snapstream takes care of conflict find.

I am thinking about picking up another USB2 turner just to help with shows running over so there is another turner available.
