Don't Wait

Hello all you Hauppauge 1600 HVR users, I have some sad news for you.
I just got an email from SnapStream today read it and weep.
================================================== ==
Hello
Thanks for writing in.

Beyond TV currently supports the clear QAM feature for the HDHOMERUN only.
There is no current plans to support QAM features for any other tuner.

Thanks
SnapStream Pre Sales Support
================================================== =====
So I say don't wait any longer head over to SageTV or GBPVR and start enjoying your HD card, maybe Sage will give
discount to all of the users who were ripped off by Snapstream.

You're the lucky winner of dumbest post of the week award.

Not sure where you get the ripped off comment there. Never has SS ever said they would support QAM for any tuner other than the HDHomeRun. Matter of fact they've said the ONLY QAM tuners that would be supported would be those that developed a BDA driver for said tuner as the HDHR developers did. If you missunderstood this fact it wasn't their fault.

Re: Don't Wait

Don't have cable, thus not using QAM.
I have 2 HDHRs (one yet to be installed), so even if I do get cable, I'm set.
BTV works for me!

Re: Don't Wait

Let me get this straight. For $170 I can get a HDHomeRun. For $150, I can get SageTV, a Hauppauge HVR-1600, a remote, and an IR blaster:

Seems like the lower priced bundle offers more, although it is sort of an apples and oranges comparison.

Re: Don't Wait

Go for it. If you can live with SageTV, then you should do it. Me, I love BTV and have used it for years. It does everything I want it to do (except CableCard).

Re: Don't Wait

Well why would I feel ripped off, Maybe because I put money into getting this
thing going bundle "TV Card + BTV" then BTV Link. I bought the 1600 because I thought it had the best all around possibility's for expansion and I had a DirectTV reciever that was hard to control but the 1600 would. When I bought this Qam was just becoming available on the 1600 and was in beta
and really buggy. As it matured I figured it would be added to BTV, HDHR at the time was not that stable either at the time.

My money was spent on two things, hardware(1600 HVR) and Software(BTV)
This was bought together as a bundle. The hardware continue's to get new drivers and software to refine it's features. The software BTV has on the other hand, what snapstream actually makes and is the company I bought this bundle from. Has totally dropped the ball not only is there support not added already but, they don't ever plan to add it.

Lets look at it this way the bundles from both company's SageTV and Snapstream where about equally priced When I bought this.

Now if I had bought the SageTV bundle what would I have to spend to watch QAM channels Ummm $0.00 right???

With the snapstream bundle to watch QAM channels I have the choice to spend $169.99 for a HDHomerun or $79.95 for Sage TV.

Ripped off like I said, There is no physical reason Snapstream can't support QAM for the hauppauge 1600. Except that they want you to buy a HDHR from them.

Re: Don't Wait

I give Snapstream credit for not banning you. This thread is absolutely useless. You feel that they haven't added a feature you want.

I don't want that feature, so if they added it, maybe I would be upset that they didn't add something else.

They have limited resources and are trying to add as many features as possible. They have an excellent, reliable, usable QAM solution. It's not the one you want.

Get over it.

Either go get Sage or stop whining.

If you buy a Chevy and Ford adds a feature you like, do you whine on the Chevy forum too?

Waste bandwidth.

Since I already have two versions of BTV and two Firefly remotes, that doesn't interest me, but maybe it interests someone else. Thanks for pointing it out. I bought the second BTV bundle a year ago for $99, and it is really my fault for sinking new money in old technology. Live and learn.

Maybe SageTV is no good. I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know, but I guess I can download the demo and use it on my secondary BTV box. I like the fact that they support PCI solutions for QAM recording. Since I have an extra PCI slot available, I don't know why I would opt for the HDHomeRun, other than possibly recording two QAM shows at once, assuming SageTV works well.

Re: Don't Wait

why are ya'll even arguing... if i remember right, the hvr1600 came out as a true dual tuner and they didn't add support for qam until a half yr later.... i bought mine in feb and qam wasn't available for it til like july/aug...

sat32, so your telling me u bought the hvr1600 b/c of qam support..... which was in beta for months....and i'm guessing u went ahead and bought it and ASSUMED BTV would support it....I don't remember ever hearing SS saying that they would support it, I remember a post that said, once it was out of beta, they would look into it...

so...u spent about max $100 bucks on a dual tuner card.....now what if they support QAM in the future, are you gonna complain that you can't record your OTA channels anymore that aren't on qam? .....

If you had done a bit of research back then, you would have seen plenty of warnings about not expecting clear QAM support on anything but the HDHR...

No, the only reason why they support the HDHR at all, is that SiliconDust (the manufacturer) handed them on a platter a turn-key solution, which works just like any other ATSC capture card (mostly). SnapStream is not interested in allocating resources to support specific hardware (DVB, Firewire, clear QAM, etc.), but if someone else is willing to do all the heavy-lifting (i.e. SiliconDust), then sure, after a few months SnapStream will spend the 15 minutes needed to polish off the support...
