Am I really this dumb? PVR500 question

My BTV system has 2 - PVR500 dual tuners. One unit has Satellite input using the composite video connectors. It also has standard cable input using the coax connector. Both 'tuners' (Sat is of course tuned by the Sat box) work fine. I can view or record from both.

For the other PVR500 I want to have 2 standard cable inputs. I connect a cable coax to the coax input, and attempt to get both tuners to 'see' it.

I assume I start in Web Admin, and Create new inputs. The drop down menu offers Capture 1, 2, 3 and 4. Capture 1 and 2 are the first (working) PVR500.

Rather than recount my many failed attempts, can someone please just tell me what I should be doing next?

Re : Am I really this dumb? PVR500 question

You could run the BTV installation wizard instead of doing it through the web admin, though it should be the same...

Been there, done that, thanks. Also installed new drivers. I suspect a hardware problem with the PVR500-- one tuner not working. But I am hesitant to jump to that conclusion. I've found that most 'hardware problems' turn out to be operator error, so I'm just trying to assure myself that I'm not overlooking something obvious.

Re: Am I really this dumb? PVR500 question

I believe there's an official faq on the 500 that says the tuners cannot share a single input. One tuner can only see the cable, the other only the composite input.

Re: Am I really this dumb? PVR500 question

Not true.. I have the 500, and 1 cable running to it.. with both tuners seeing the cable...

Not sure what it is.. but if the device manager does not have a red cross or yellow ! next to the turners then they should be operating properly... and it should be an app config issue.

then it is wrong since i have a pvr500 that can record two channels of standard cable simultaneously. what you cannot do is use the tuner and composite simultaneously on the same tuner. so in effect you can record two programs simultaneously but cannot use all connectors simultaneously(4 inputs- tuner/composite X2)

you have to configure each tuner seperately if tuner 1 & 2 are your tuners then tuner 1 is setup then tuner 2 is setup same goes for the second pvr500 essentially if you have 2 500's you will have 4 standard cable inputs to configure(unless you purposely didn't set one up. aka keep a tuner free for the sat box)

Yes, as I said, one 500 works fine with satellite on 'composite' and cable on the coax inputs.

The other 500 is fed by a single cable coax. It gives a fine picture on one of the tuners, and snow with a barely discernable picture on the other tuner.

As TLSRULZ says, "Not true.. I have the 500, and 1 cable running to it.. with both tuners seeing the cable..."

That's my problem-- only one of the tuners seems to be working. I've run configurations till I'm blue in the face-- same result. I do still suspect hardware (the 500) but looking for a "DUHH!! (rolleyes) answer.

Sounds like you got one of the PVR500 from the crappy batch, where you need a specific version of the driver to make it work...

Personally, I need to use the drivers version 2.0.43.24054, or I get bad snow on both tuners. If you check the long thread about the PVR500 issues, there are other suggestions:

Hauppauge WinTV PVR 500 MCE

Re: Am I really this dumb? PVR500 question

Thanks everyone-- I'll give these things a try.

But right now I've got to deal with what seems to be a hard drive failure.

Oh well, some days are like this......................
