What Capture Card Delivers the Best Picture?

I am hoping people can share what video capture card/device they believe gives the best picture. (Or at least an excellent picture.) Feel free to also offer cards that you believe are the best for other reasons as well.

The card can be capable of using either a PCI or PCIe slots (or USB). I am interested in what capture card/device provides the best picture for analog/digital (NTSC) and/or HDTV (ATSC). Just share what you have used.

In addition, could you share if you have used the capture card/device with Windows Vista? I am very interested in your experiences and opinion. Thanks.

Re: What Capture Card Delivers the Best Picture?

I use a Hauppauge HVR 1600. Generally receives high marks for picture quality. It recently was on sale for $60 at CC, may still be on sale. CC has a great return policy (return in 30 days, no questions asked). Buy one and give it a whirl! My OS is XP.

Re: What Capture Card Delivers the Best Picture?

I have an ATI TV Wonder 650. Don't know about the picture quality relative to other cards, but this was one of the only cards that was Vista compatible back in January, so this is what I got. It really does the job, too.

For what it's worth, it plays nice with all the relevant software, whether it's Media Center, SageTV, BTV, or ATI's little homemade tuner software. Never had a single issue with it under Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

Re: What Capture Card Delivers the Best Picture?

I have only used two

Haupauge PVR-500 is far superior to nvidia 'personal cinema' geForce fx5200

I would have bought a Haupauge 1600, had it been available when I bought my 500
