How do I use Hauppauge remote with notebook IR and btv link?

Does anyone know how to get my IR on my notebook to respond to my hauppauge remote, or any other remote besides the one it came with? I would like to use my notebook in another room withe btv link.

Your notebook came with a remote? Are you sure it is IR and not RF? My notebook came with an RF remote.

The normal IR port on a laptop will not support a remote as it runs on different frequencies.

What laptop specifically?

It's an HP... it needs line of site, so it should be IR..

Why not just use the remote that came with the HP?

Perhaps EventHost would help, but would require some work.

The remote that came with it is one of those that fit into the pcmcia slot.. tiny, few buttons and difficult to use. I'll probably just get on of snapstreams free ones with BTV Link right now.
