BeyondTV 5

Hey,
I'm just wondering if I should wait for the next version of BeyondTV as the latest revision is now 4.6. It should be anytime now, right? Anyone know when verison 5 might be released?
thanks!

Re: BeyondTV 5

Why should you wait? When they went from 3.x to 4.x, there was an special upgrade price.

+ no telling WHEN. Could be early next year, could be in 2010 or never. SS hasn't giving us a 5.x release.

Well, I would think at this revision level, Version 5 should be coming soon. Especially when version 3 only went to 3.5, then Version 4 came out.

I just don't want to spend full price on 4, when 5 might come out next month or two, and then have to pay more again to go to 5.

I can tell you that it won't come out in the next month or two.

Re: BeyondTV 5

So much has changed in the hardware realm in the last 6 months, I was hoping BTV would keep up with some point releases and better QAM support. From what I have read so far, HDHR is the only one supported, and that appears to be a hack. Easy QAM integration is a must. Hook us up Snapstream !

Re: BeyondTV 5

Considering how long 4.0 was in the betas, and the current beta is still on the 4.x series, I highly doubt 5.0 will come out this year. (or within 6 months). Try the trial, if you like it, buy, there will be most likely be a discounted upgrade when 5.0 does come out.

Re: BeyondTV 5

Kind of like in the old days when the new color TV sets had been on the market for like 3 years and there were still people with B/W sets who reasoned, "I'm going to wait until they get Color TV's perfected before I buy one".

Some of them are still waiting ..

Buy now .. enjoy ... be happy .. Heck what if an asteroid destroyed us a year from now, just one day after the release of version 5. You'd be dead never having enjoyed the fun of BTV.

Re: BeyondTV 5

I've seen other posts on this topic where people said tha BTV 5 will be geared towards Vista compatibility. I can see the reasoning behind that but I can also think of lots of incremental improvements they could still make to the existing version. So hopefully there'll yet be another (free?) 4.7 rev, or a 5.0 rev that includes new features other than simply Vista compatibility.

Actually that is incorrect. What you likely read was that SS's next goal was Vista compatability -- which is now accomplished with their current version. New features and bug fixes would be their next goals I presume.

Re: BeyondTV 5

Correct, the next version was announced last year as the integrated product, which is partly why SS is continuing with 4.x and adding plugins, integration is a really big task.
