record 2 HDTV shows on Hvr-1600

I have 1 HVR-1600 card and I wish to record 2 HDTV shows at once. Will I have to buy another card to do this? Will Beyond TV handle recording 2 shows at once?

Thanks in advance

Re: record 2 HDTV shows on Hvr-1600

The HRV-1600 itself only supports 1 analog + 1 digital, so you will need 2 cards to do that. I think the HDHomerun is one of the very few to support dual digital tuners...

I have 2 HD tuners and 3 analog tuners. Beyond seems to handle this just fine.

Can the HVR1600 record HD shows using BTV and will it work like my old tuner card which I have been using for 3 years now?

You need another card. BTV can handle way more at once, depending your your hardware setup.

I have 3 analog and 2 HD tuners which record all the same time without a problem.

Re: record 2 HDTV shows on Hvr-1600

I have a HVR-1600 and would like to start recording HD, Clear QAM channels. My current PC is not up to the task so I'm planning to buy a new PC. My question is do I need Windows XP or will Vista (32-bit version) work ?

I'm a little confused because the Snapstream website says "Windows XP Service Pack 2" (see below). That can be read two ways: 1) you must have Windows XP; or, 2) it's the "minimum" you need and it presumes that Vista is "higher" (which I'm not so sure about !)

Is anyone using the HVR-1600 to record/playback HD, Clear QAM channels with Windows Vista (32-bit) ?

Thanks for the help.

====================

Requirements for clear QAM
  • Intel® Pentium®, AMD Athlon™ processor at 1.7 GHz or higher
  • 512 MB Ram
  • ATI Radeon 9550 or NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 or Higher
  • 40 GB of available hard drive space (this will allow 5 hours of HD Recording)
  • Coax cable source
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • QAM Compliant Capture Cards:
    • Hauppauge HVR-950Q
    • Hauppauge HVR-1250
    • Hauppauge HVR-1600
    • Hauppauge HVR-1800
    • Hauppauge HVR-1950
    • Hauppauge HVR-2250
    • AverMedia M780
    • AverMedia A180 (QAM capable ones)
    • ATi Theater 650 family
    • Silicon Dust HDHomeRun Dual Network Tuner

If you are serious, post your log so we can see what happened. The only way you can record both as .tp streams would be with two tuners, otherwise you recorded one .tp HD stream and one analog SD mpg-2 file.

Regarding the specs on Snapstream, minimum specs are xp sp2, you should work in vista (for as good as vista works that is). If you want to record QAM with the HVR1600, you need to make sure your card is capable of it, older cards (like mine) will only record OTA.

Thanks, ZetaVu. I'm presuming since I could view (in a smaller window) a show in HD that my HVR1600 is one of the newer models.

And as for recording two HD shows with an HVR1600, I'd first ask, djphatjive , how was determined that both are HD ? Did it simply show "HD" in the lower right-hand corner of the TV screen or did BeyondTV indicate that both recordings were HD (e.g. "1080i") ? Often the network will indicate the show is "broadcast in HD", but that doesn't necessarily mean you're watching (or recording) it in HD.

Just a thought.
