Automated exit of BTV possible? - Solved
Hello all,
Can only find information relating to automated shutdown of windows but I'm trying to find out if BTV can exit automatically without shutting down windowsXP (Pro)? I'm after a shortcut to the 'exit' option of the taskbar popup, or an equivalent .bat file (I assume) to run from scheduled tasks in control panel. I'm rebooting windows every week or so to keep it running properly. I want to shutdown BTV, then windows. I don't want to force an exit as BTV doesn't seem to like this, it doesn't start properly every so often. While I'm on it, running BTV start from scheduled tasks doesn't work for me, and putting BTV in the startup folder causes the computer to churn and struggle with BTV/anti-virus etc all jostling for position. I want to start BTV say after a minute to give the computer time to settle. Anyone with similar ideas using an alternative method they can share? Thanks Steve

Re: Automated exit of BTV possible?
Nice one!
Will be giving that a spin soon. Thanks very much. I've another question which may make all of this academic though. I was fiddling last night, trying to schedule tasks etc and discovered that the tasks kept failing because a user account password wasn't entered. I also got error messages regarding permissions so I assume that only password protected accounts can generate scheduled tasks. Seems sensible. Now, I had a password on my user account but if I rebooted I, of course, arrive at the XP log in screen and the computer goes nowhere until the password is entered. Whats the point of doing a scheduled unattended reboot if I have to be there to enter the password! Can anyone shed any light on this for me? How can I log in to a password protected account? I tried adding a password, creating a task and removing the password but seems no-go. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise it's a catch-22. Steve

Re: Automated exit of BTV possible?
The TweakUI powertoy: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx
Will allow you to setup an account to automatically log in. This works even for accounts with passwords.

Re: Automated exit of BTV possible?
Thanks for that, will be installing for sure as I've fiddled again and it's definite that scheduled tasks only obey accounts with passwords (in this instance).
Unfortunately, the '/quit' option in the first reply doesn't work. I tried '/exit' etc but nothing. Tried on both the Agent and the Shell. They obey other command line options as tasks so I don't know why /quit is ignored. So, I can use Tweak to do an unattended reboot, and now start BTV a minute or two after the computer has settled, but I can't close BTV down cleanly just before the reboot. Still seems a bit untidy, but I'm getting there, thanks to the forum! If I could only find out what happens when you click on the 'exit' option from the taskbar I'd be laughing... Steve
