Guide Show Reminder

I'm still using version 3.7.4. One option I have always wanted to see is a Show Reminder and perhaps the option to setup the program so it will automatically change channels to shows which you have set reminders for.

Digital Cable offers this, so I know BeyondTV will have this, if it doesn't already, then it will eventually.

Anyways, I do not know how version 4.x.x is built. Is there an option to set show reminders in the Guide? If not, this is one feature that I'd definately love to see added into a future version.

Re: Guide Show Reminder

I am not sure what you mean by a reminder. You can set a single episode to record. If you do that it will change the channel and record it. You can then watch it at your leisure. Isn't that really the whole point.

Re: Guide Show Reminder

The point the OP is trying to make is that he'd like to be able to setup a "Reminder" for a TV Show and not necessarily record it.

For Example, you see that TV show <insert name> is on at 10pm and you want a reminder to watch it, but not record it. You navigate through the guide and instead of selecting RECORD, you select REMIND. Then at 9:55pm for example, a box pops up on screen saying "TV Show <insert name> is starting in 5 minutes" and then give you options to change channel right away, in 5 mins, etc.

Unfortunately this is *NOT* part of BTV at present......however it is a feature I would like to see as well.

Re: Guide Show Reminder

My Dish Network receiver does this as well and it is convenient, just as a reminder, as you say. It doesnt seem like it would be too hard to implement, but it seems like a new version is not around the corner. No announcements or hints to that effect. Bummer. We are ready for some new features.

Ok I see. I guess for me if I want to watch something I record it. I can't stand watching a show live anymore. I have nothing against the feature, but I personally don't see the need.

Amen brother. No live TV for me since December 2004, except when I'm not home. I think that feature would be useful, but I would not use it.

Quick anecdote: My wife and I were out of town last weekend. Every time I wanted to tell her something, I would ask her to pause the TV. I just kept forgetting. That's how spoiled I am.

Re: Guide Show Reminder

My wife still does live tv. BUt when WE are watching tv it's ONLY recorded shows.

Now, you can set it up to record and while it's recording you can watch. We do that for shows my wifey wants to watch NOW. Like Girls Next Door. Starts at ten and always set to record. Then while recording we watch, pause and fastforward if we pause for the restroom break. After we finish watching, we just delete. That simple.

That problem I have with live tv, is if you accidentally change the channel, you loose the buffer. Now your screwed cuz you missed a piece of the show or most.

Re: Guide Show Reminder

Another thing to add: If I watching something (live tv or recorded shows), when a show starts to record, a little red record dot is displays on the bottom right of the screen for a few seconds. Then I usually check to see what is being record.
