Doctor Who - everything is a repeat

The new season of Doctor Who starts tonight (8pm PT, I'm in San Jose, with Comcast). There are two new episodes airing, but SnapStream thinks they're repeats. In contrast, there's a Stargate SG-1 episode airing at 7pm that's old, yet listed as new by the SnapStream guide.

This tends to happen regularly with SciFi channel shows (or maybe it's just that most of my recordings are SciFi channels). Who is to blame for these errors/problems?

Thanks

All of the Dr Whos in my guide for today are repeats (originally aired in June). I don'e see a new one until 7/9 (Gridlock)

Gridlock on 7/9? Interesting. My guide data doesn't show that episode, nor does it show anything Doctor Who episodes on 7/9 actually. I do see a ton of episodes today; there's a marathon of some sort going on, of the previous season.

SciFi.com (which is flash-based so it won't work on an iphone says that the season starts tonight (7.6), with 2.5 hours of episodes; that's what I thought as well, but Snapstream's guide says the episodes are repeats.

Thanks

Well there is something strange going on here. I checked on couchville, which showed the 7/9 Gridlock episode, but I don't see that episode in my BTV/Snapstream.net guide, so the guide data on ss.net and couchville seem to be out of synch

That issue has been brought up many times... What happens is that many TV shows have had their first diffusion elsewhere (other channel or even Country) before. So while Doctor Who is new on SciFi, it has already aired in the UK (and Canada?). SnapStream's guide provider makes no distinction that would allow to handle those cases...

And the couchville information is also confusing. It has that episode originally airing on 7/9, but no showing of that episode on 7/9:

Original Airdate: Monday, July 09, 2007

Episode Description
The Doctor takes Martha to New Earth in the future, where sinister pharmacists rule the streets.

Cast
David Tennant - Actor
Billie Piper - Actor

Upcoming Airings
No upcoming airings of this episode.

That's actually the Canadian airing on CBC, so CouchVille is aware of it, but it's simply not available in your lineup...

Re: Doctor Who - everything is a repeat

Seems to be fixed now beginning with the "Daleks in Manhattan" episode airing Fri 7/27 listed as new.

Thumbs up Re: Doctor Who - everything is a repeat

Yeah, I noticed that too..

I also sent a question to support - they got back to me in two days (on a Sunday no less). The issue has something to do with the episodes that are new to me/my provider (comcast) having already aired elsewhere (Canada in this case).

Since the problem has now been fixed, I guess either a) they've fixed the problem and maybe localize the new/repeat concept to a given provider, or b) the Daleks in Manhattan just hasn't aired in Canada yet. I'm hoping it's the former.

Thanks

Re: Doctor Who - everything is a repeat

This has been a known issue for a long time, for me, a lot of the discovery channel shows appear as old, because a lot of the time they are on the night before in the US, and we get it the day after in Canada. For shows I really like I just record all and then delete the ones I have not watched.

Re: Doctor Who - everything is a repeat

Seems like the solution to this problem is one great big global cable provider, and one global channel lineup

Re: Doctor Who - everything is a repeat

You should be able to correct for this by changing to record all episodes at least until you finish season 3

Sure, that will work for season 3, but what happens when season 4 comes around? Will this be fixed by then? From other postings, I gather this has been a known problem for some time, so I'm reluctant to think it will get fixed soon. This is one of the more basic features of SnapStream, so I'd expect it to work.

Don't get me wrong, I can live with it - but it's annoying. The workaround works for Dr. Who because it doesn't air frequently, but there are other shows that are on repeatedly; to have to record every one and weed out the old ones just to catch the few that might be new would be a royal pain (Stargate SG-1/Atlantis, for example, they are/were on multiple times during the week with only the Friday episodes are new).

And why is it that the July 27 episode of Dr. Who (pt 1 of 2) was new, but the August 3 episode (pt 2 of 2) was not? That seems a bit odd, no? But maybe I'm misremembering and my BTV didn't automatically record part 1 on its own.
