Dish Network Receiver Recommendations

I just moved back in with my Parents. I previously had cable but my parents have Dish Network. I need to purchase a receiver for my room but I want to get some recommedations on which to buy. What receivers have you guys had the best of luck connecting to BTV? Old or new I don't care, I should be able to find older receivers on ebay.

Cool. What do you use to control it? Does it have a serial option or do you use an IR Blaster.

i also use a 301 with the IR blaster. The Dish recievers do not support serial control.

Re: Dish Network Receiver Recommendations

As b_hawk stated, you must use the IR blaster. Be aware that the little IR bug that you can order with the Happauge PVR-150 must be stuck to the IR window (the middle one) on the 301. It comes with clear double stick tape but doesn't hold very well. I stuck mine on with clear silicon glue.

FYI: Don't bother with any multi-tuner models. You'll only be able to control "TV 1" since the other tuner(s) can only be controlled with an RF remote.
