Snapstream.Net Local Mode vs. Remote Mode

I am not really sure of the difference between the 2 modes available on the Snapstream.Net site, specifically the "Live TV" portion of the "Local Mode". I tired using that mode from home once, just to see what it did. When I clicked on the TV icon from the schedule grid, the BeyondTV Viewscape started up, but it never went past the startup screen.

Re: Snapstream.Net Local Mode vs. Remote Mode

live TV on SnapStream.net? I'm alittle confused also, the difference between local and remote is that the jobs that you setup to record are instantly transfered to BTV or it is queued up and downloaded by BTV later.

I think he's confusing Snapstream.net with the web admin.

If you notice, it says live tv links...

meaning links to shows that are currently airing.

For example, it's 7pm and your on SS.net and you see that the show Friends is on and you want to record it, you would change to Local mode and click on the link for it and it will record the show asap. If you stayed in remote mode, it is queued up and probably won't sync in time with BTV to record the show.

I really don't understand what the question is, just trying to provide as much information for you as possible.

Re: Snapstream.Net Local Mode vs. Remote Mode

That IS exactly what my question was.

So Remote is a Pull from your desktop, and the Local is a Push to the desktop?

How does it know where to push to?

Re: Snapstream.Net Local Mode vs. Remote Mode

Local will only work if you're on the computer with Beyond TV loaded. It knows what to do because it can just run a command line to instantiate BTV on that box.

Basically, some people like to use SnapStream.Net from their computer to browse the guide even from their BTV computer. Local mode just gives them a way to to bypass the remote recording "pull" system.
