what hardware card for HDTV 3D acceleration?

What card do you use for 3D acceleration with HDTV? I've got a 1300XL and that just doesn't cut it. I'm looking to upgrade however I don't want to spend a boatload of money to get it. I have a PCI-E slot.

Re: what hardware card for HDTV 3D acceleration?

All I can say is it's a hit and miss. I have a 9700AIW and I'm able to do hardware acceleration. There was a point where I couldn't. But I think I got lucky with the drivers for the 9700 AIW. Yours is a newer card and should be able to do it without a problem. Problem is all about the drivers. Drivers play a big part. The latest drivers are NOT necessary the best drivers. Try different drivers.

Also decoders play a big part also. Hardware setup is another one. All adds up.

Describe what happens when you try 3d acceleration. jumpy video?

I just updated my drivers to the latest and it "almost" works. It's only slightly jumpy which is an improvement. I'll try a different driver version and see if that helps.

I've tried 6 different driver versions and they all "almost" work for smooth HD with 3D. Crap, this is driving me nuts.

What's your definition of "boatload"? For about $150-$175, you can find OEM versions of the ATI X1950 Pro that should provide a real boost in HD performance as well as good overall (including gaming) performance.

I can live with that, I'll look into one of those cards. I didn't want to have to shell out $300 to get 3D acceleration.

Re: what hardware card for HDTV 3D acceleration?

Which ones do you guys have and how loud is it? For an HTPC quiet and powerful would be best

I took a look on newegg and it looks like most of these have fans. There was a PowerColor model that had a hercin' heatsink at $229.99.

Thanks,
David

Re: what hardware card for HDTV 3D acceleration?

I was wondering the same thing. I have an X1050 that I just bought, but it just doesn't seem to work in Hardware Acceleration. I bought it because it was a fanless card. I get scanlines through HD picture though. I run it on software no lines?

Re: what hardware card for HDTV 3D acceleration?

I have an x1600 from Asus that is fanless. Works with HD perfectly fine. The video processing/decoding functionality (AVIVO) is identical in the x1000 lines, so you get the same level of performance as the x1950 (for video of course).

However, with the price of the x1950 being so low, it is hard to justify not getting one of these, unless silent operation is a high priority.

Re: what hardware card for HDTV 3D acceleration?

Does anybody have any experience with NVIDIA, specifically the Geoforce 8600 and 8800.

I'm considering an 8600 based card or possibly an ATI x1950 based card.

Thanks,

Works well with 3Daccelerated in BTV.

Re: what hardware card for HDTV 3D acceleration?

I have been drooling over that card for about two weeks. Unfortunately I didn't order it when they had it for $160. btvfreak - Are you using it with XP or Vista, what drivers are you using and how stable are they? I was reluctant to try it since it's pretty new.

I'm running XP with Forceware 158.22 with no issues. I have a rear projection HDTV and I can use the under/overscan feature very easily.
