Smile Community Web Admin with Role Based Security

A lot of the stuff talked about in this thread: Community Web Admin Requests
has been added to the community web admin.

Here are my check-in note:
1. Added in simple command line ability to start/stop manual recordings from the RecordNow page. Parameters are: action={start, stop}, channel={numeric channel number}, duration={minutes for recording}
2. Took out counts on shows menu to improve performance.
3. Added link to main page for calendar view.
4. ADDED IN ROLE BASED SECURITY! You can now create 4 different user types (Admin, Viewer, Scheduler, Child-Viewer).

I am working on putting it in a zip file to install from. If you feel like testing the security changes please make a backup of the WebAdminUsers.xml file on your server.

very Slick -- I like that calendar -- however -- in this zip file you missed the icon for the Calendar on the main page.

The zip has been updated to include this. NOTE: Can't take any credit for the image itself.

ccarlin,
I hadn't tried out the latest stuff you've done like the calendar and the "mouse-over" menu structure & I gotta say this is really nice. Very good work here. I have one question though. Could you help me understand how you set up the role-based-security? How do you set up the different user types and how does the logging in work for different users?

Thanks again!
Brent

Basically if you activate security you must create an administrator account. After that if you go to the setup screen you can either edit an existing user or create a new one. You can not change the administrator user (other than password). You can delete as user, change their password or change their role.

The roles are:
Administrator: Full access to everything.
Scheduler: Only has access to setup new recordings and edit/remove existing ones
Viewer: Can only see the main page and today, live tv, library. Can not delete shows or edit them. Can show squeeze and streamsnip.
Child-Viewer - Same as viewer except only show that have the category "Children" are displayed for viewing all others are filtered out.

Re: Community Web Admin with Role Based Security

I have posted a thread, but to no avail so far, maybe you guys could help me with this. For some reason my advanced settings tab doesn't work. When I hit enable password, it gives me 2 text boxes for entering password but when I hit save, nothing happens. This is a standard install of BTV. I have made no modifications.

Maybe these problems are combined, also I cannot change my port number or my channel line-up.

Dave

Re: Community Web Admin with Role Based Security

I am getting an error when I try to goto the "Advanced Settings" tab and then click on "security settings". Any help with this error would be appreciated. The error I get is:

Re: Community Web Admin with Role Based Security

Sounds like you do not have the right dll from the zip file in place. Make sure you shut down the server before putting the dll in place.

I did make the mistake of installing it the first time without shutting down the server but I have since shut down the server and reinstalled it and I still get the same error message. I am not getting any error messages during extraction. Would this have anything to do with me running this on Windows 2000 machine?

I will have to double check the dll when I get home make sure the right one is in the zip file. Since I don't have this running win2k I would also make sure that the dll was put in the right directory, the paths could be different. Do a search and make sure you only have one of them.

I really appreciate the help. The dll file you are referring to is "SnapStream.BeyondTV.WebAdministration.dll", correct? I did check and there were 2 other copies of it in 2 completely different locations (not in the snapstream folder). I replaced the file there also but it did not make any difference.

I have yet to have been able to solve this problem, has anyone got any other ideas? Also, what OS's does this worked with?
