enabling closed captions + beyondtv 4 + hauppauge cards?
How does one go about enabling closed captions on beyondtv 4 using a hauppauge pvr150 card?
I'm guessing the info found here only applies to beyond TV 3? http://snapstream.helpserve.com/inde...d=1366&nav=0,1 Thanks. -T |

Re: enabling closed captions + beyondtv 4 + hauppauge cards?
Thanks Queonda,
That totally worked. I was confused because I was unable to locate the settings.xml file. I was able to locate the file after I turned off hide system files and folders. Duh. Thanks again. -T |

Now that Ive had an opportunity to use the closed captions option...
It would be nice if... You could toggle the closed caption on/off as needed, without having to remodify the settings.xml file Also if you could modify the font style and opacity of the closed caption's I'm hoping with time snapstream will fully support closed captions. Fingers crossed. -T |

Re: enabling closed captions + beyondtv 4 + hauppauge cards?
I've already posted this in "Closed Captions" but I thought it couldn't hurt to post here also.
I have a question. I finally was able to get the closed captions working with my pvr500. I use to have a pvr350 and had to go through the whole routine to get the closed captions to work with it. However, I was able to define the color and text size for the captions then. I was also able to have a transparent background. Now it seems that I can only get the black box with the white text. Is there any way to change this with the pvr500? Thank you. |

Re: enabling closed captions + beyondtv 4 + hauppauge cards?
Now I have cc for my pvr150. It works alright, but I can't help and notice the white lettering on the blocked-black background. I really miss using DSCALER with my old WinTV GO-PCI (uses the BT878 decoder). The cc is perfectly font and sized with transparent background (it's white lettering with black outlines on a transparent background).
Note to snapstream: Please have an "enable" cc button. Please add in the transparency option as well. Please add an option to watch live television rather than a recorded version in MPEG2 (even at dvd best, it simply can't compare to live feeds). Everything else are extras... Thanks. |

Re: enabling closed captions + beyondtv 4 + hauppauge cards?
Ok, just jumping in to see if anyone's had luck getting CC in the hvr1600? I know Hauppauge keeps shifting their registry points around.
Also, I do not use the tryCC option in settings.xml, ubly captions and affects my undersized card navgation. I use the mpg2srt with vobsub, that way I choose which movies have captions. You can also setup to run mpg2srt as custom post processing - http://snapstream.helpserve.com/inde...articleid=1254 Now, if that was setup to put them all in a common directory, I wonder if you could make a batch file to hide/unhide that directory, turn CC on and off? Something to play with. Also, the snapstream basic decoder does not display captions, so you could theoretically switch decoders to turn CC on/off.

Re: enabling closed captions + beyondtv 4 + hauppauge cards?
Ok, I feel like a moron. I just took one of my mpgs from the hvr1600 and ran it through mpg2srt (I tried this before, so I thought) and it generated captions. I remember there used to be an issue where the first recording after you booted your computer did not capture CC's, maybe that happened.
Either way, the HVR 1600 stores CC's automatically. Now, I played around with my smi and srt files (just used the smt file for now) I moved it to a subfolder called "subtitles" vobsub recognizes this and plays fine, so you should setup all smi files there for easy manipulation. I tried making the file then the subfolder hidden, btv still showed them. I moved the subfolder from under the movie folder, no captions. I also renamed the folder to something illogical "dog" while it was still under the movie folder, this also turned off subtitles (you had to exit the movie and start again, otherwise the caption file plays from memory) So, if you wanted to use mpg2srt as post processing, you could generate an smi file of each recording (stored in a subtitles folder) You could then use a batch file to rename the subtitles folder something else when you want CC off, and back to subtitles when you want them on. Will not work for livetv, and if you want to turn off the subtitles in a movie you're viewing, you need to exit and re-enter. But again, closed captions are stored by default it seems with the HVR 1600.
