HVR-1600 new buy questions

I am going to buy the Hauppauge 1600 card and I was hoping someone could tell me a few things first.

1. Can I hook up standard cable and HD OTA both or just one at a time?
2. Can I record both standard cable and HD OTA at the same time?
3. Can I connect a standard cable antenna to the HD input and get normal channels?

I guess I am wondering if this is a dual tuner or just a normal tuner with 2 different inputs to choose one or the other.

First : Yes
Second: No, One at a time
Third: Only if the cable passes HD signals (from ch2 to ch68 ATSC). It will not decode true QAM.

Re: HVR-1600 new buy questions

You can hook up standard cable to the antenna-coax and HD to the HD coax. You can also hookup your cablebox to the s-video in. You can record on the HD input simultaneously with one of the sd inputs (coaxial in or s-video in). You cannot record on both sd inputs simultaneously, aka, you cannot record standard cable two at a time, just one cable one HD. (two tuners, one HD only, one sd only) If you want to record HD from cable line (QAM) you need to go with an HDHomerun, then you can record only unencrypted HD channels (local channels usually) I assume connecting cable input to HD won't give you anything. You can use a regular antenna for the HD, I use my roof mount.

Re: HVR-1600 new buy questions

Here is my experience since I own 2 of the HVR-1600's

1. both, it is a true dual tuner
2. yes, you can record from both tuners using BTV 4.6 +
3. I connect my standard antenna that I have in my attic and i get HD channels through the HD connector, you cannot get normal channels through the HD connector. You would have to plug that into the analog connector.
