Re: What MPG quality do you record at?

I record at Best, i don't notice a difference and I delete the recordings afterwards so I don't really run out of space.

Re: What MPG quality do you record at?

i use the good quality because it produces a great picture(considering it is an analog signa) and don't take up too much room.

i have been debating dropping down to fair for some shows i delete after watching. i have done this for andy griffith show when i used to record them.

Re: What MPG quality do you record at?

I use 3 customs: 1) 3.66 GB (no VBR) for the stuff I delete after viewing, 2) 2.2 GB (VBR) for the stuff I save on DVDs and 3) 1.55 GB (VBR) for the cartoons I burn on DVDs for my niece/nephew...

Re: What MPG quality do you record at?

Considering that HD runs about 9GB/hr, there is no reason to save space.

Best.

The default Better setting seems OK, about 2.5 GB per hour

Re: What MPG quality do you record at?

I am running a custom quality to easy burn to DVD when needed. I might bump that up when I upgrade my system to more disk space (and RAID) and HD.

Re: What MPG quality do you record at?

I was runing at 9mb\sec which worked out to be about a gig every half hour. But after changing to Best, I don't see that much of a difference.

Re: What MPG quality do you record at?

I think I'm still on 2.5gb/hr, I think close to 5000kbps. Bever saw improvements above this on my tv, and this usually gives me movie files without commercials that can be saved to dvd without re compressing.

Re: What MPG quality do you record at?

I was using best, but my wife was not watching her programs quickly enough. Also, if i wanted to put two hours on a dvd, it would have to transcode the mpeg. So one day I decided to start using good.

IMHO, there is a difference between best and good. However, since I switched, it makes my life easier to work with getting programs over to dvd, so I deal with it.

Having said that, I copied a show to dvd (data dvd, not video dvd) to give to a friend who is using Myth TV and something did tape. I mentioned to him I switched to a lower grade to save room because they fit on dvd better. he sends me an email that says, dude, that was awesome quality. I don't know what you are complaining about. Maybe that cable power booster was needed after all that coNcast disconnected the other day
