QAM support other than HDHR

Its great to see that Beyond TV now supports QAM. But all I see is support for HDHR. Does it support QAM through Dvico Fusion HDTV5 card?

and it will stay that way until a proper bda driver for qam is released by dvico unfortunately.

wow, thanks for the quick responses. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

What particular advantages do you see with HDHR vs. a card based tuner?

Re: QAM support other than HDHR

You don't have to have the HDHR connected to the computer. It is a network based card (with 2 tuners). So, the HDHR can be placed anywhere in the house. Also, when BTV is not using the HDHR, you can watch from the HDHR through the VLC program on any computer in the house.

I'm assuming you mean HDHR vs other card-based QAM tuners? If so:
1. The developers of the HDHR have created a bda driver that works in windows for digital channels (even though the standard bda driver was never meant to work with digital channels) - unlike all other QAM tuner makers. Because of this, it works without needing plugins or other software and it works with BeyondTV, SageTV, MCE and others.
2. You don't need an open slot on your PC - just a place to plug it in to your network router or switch
3. It is a dual tuner
4. The developers of the HDHR seem to update the firmware often and are pretty responsive to users requests and questions.

Re: QAM support other than HDHR

Thanks for the info.
Do you know if HDHR works well over a wireless network. For example, the HDHR is hardwired into the network, but then computers that want to view the HD content are wireless.
Do these PC's need to be hardwired into the network as well?

I personally haven't tried it over wifi, but I wouldn't recommend it. High Definition takes a bunch of bandwidth. I would even recommend you wire for gigabit ethernet if possible. This isn't specific to the HDHR though - its for any High Definition content.

I'll second that. Start thinking about going gigabit, it's the only way you will be happy with the results. I came to that realization recently, I'm in the process of running cable.

In order to use the FusionHDTV card to record unencrypted QAM channels with BTV, you would need to use my addon (BTV-Externinator, link in my signature) and the original DVICO software....
