Question BTV control using Harmony 880 and USB-Uirt

I am researching a remote upgrade for my BTV setup. Currently my rig looks like this:
BTV box running XP Home
Dual tuner cards: one with S-vid input from a digital cable STB, one with analog cable input.
USB-Uirt IR blaster to control STB
Firefly (senior) remote to control BTV.

I am drowning in remotes, and want to consolidate to a Harmony 880. This IR-only remote, of course, is not compatable with my RF Firefly remote receiver. However, I have this nice USB-Uirt sitting there that should do the receiving work, as well as the blasting it currently is performing. Anyone have experience in the pitfalls or successes of this setup? Some threads have alluded to this setup working, but
all the ones I have read around the 880 suggest using a MCE or FFMini remote receiver to connect to the BTV software (like John Sparks' guide at HOW TO: Using MCE Remote and/or Harmony 880 to control BTV ). I will buy one of these remotes just to get the reveiver if I have to, but it seems a shame since I already have the USB-Uirt.
My reading suggests HIP is the way I will have to go (or Girder if I want to pay, but I'm trying to be frugal here). Does Harmony/Logitech have a HIP/USB-Uirt device plug-in? (It would be nice if Logitech would let you scan its supported devices list, but they don't seem to make that info available.) If not, what's the most successful way to make this setup work? Anyone have configuration files? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Re: BTV control using Harmony 880 and USB-Uirt

I am using the IR sensor that came with my Hauppauge 250. I don't use the Hauppauge remote but instead use an older Harmony. So the system is set up using the Hauppauge IR settings etc. but with the Harmony remote. Works great.

Re: BTV control using Harmony 880 and USB-Uirt

My H250 card was the "special" H250-BTV model from Snapstream, it did not come with a remote. It was bundled with a Firefly (RF) remote and the BTV software for folks purchasing the software and hardware for initial setup. So, my only IR receiver is my USB-Uirt.

Re: BTV control using Harmony 880 and USB-Uirt

I bought a streamzap to replace my firefly to use with my 880. Logitech already has a profile for it and it works well. The only catch is that you lose a few keys (options button, add to playlist in BM, maybe others). I bought a cheap IR keyboard and learned these buttons.

Can't comment on your suggestions since I haven't tried them.

Re: BTV control using Harmony 880 and USB-Uirt

I love the 880. I also use the pvr 250 sensor that came with one of my cards. I had it setup that way before getting the 880 so it made sense to set the remote to emulate the 250 remote. Works great.

I don't think BTV can use the USB-UIRT to receive. I think you would have to use girder or Hip or EventGhost to capture from the USB-UIRT and let it talk to BTV.

It can be done that way. I've seen many posts from users who have it setup like that.

Re: BTV control using Harmony 880 and USB-Uirt

I have a 890 and when I have time I'm going to setup with eventGhost. I tried with HIP and was OK but then I got a virus (I don't think it was contributed to HIP) but then I was back to square one after a image load.
