New BTV setup questions

I just purchased BTV 4. I also bought the Hauppage WINTV-USB2. I watching the TV through a 22" Samsung computer monitor.

My questions are:

1. My live TV picture quality is very grainy (looks like its getting it from a old rabbit ear setup)
2. I can't get the program to change the channel into the higher (500+) channel range (thats HBO & showtime, BTW) but it will do all the lower channels.
3. I've had to manually update my TV schedule (only once)
4. I do have a long coax cable running from another room (TV source) to my office (computer). Would that make a difference?
5. My office cablebox is the older (standard TV only) black cable box from motorola. is there a trick to making all this work?

The input to your USB tuner should be from the cable box not from the analog cable. With that configuration you will only be able to watch the analog channels.

The cable you are using could very well be your problem, does it look the same on another device. Perhaps you have a small TV you could set up temporarily.
