Why can't BTV just delete shows normally? I don't believe it is.
I upgraded to a 1000GB RAID5 array (500GB x 3). I then realized that my XP has a limitation of 3.99GB for the recycle bin. So, I then installed Diskeeper's Undelete and I was able to increase from 4GB (most 1 hour shows are 3GB) to unlimited (I chose 30GB). Now if I go to Windows explorer and delete shows they all go to Undelete's Recycle Bin and can be recovered. However, if I delete a show using the BTV UI the file is not recoverable. Someone suggested Handy Recovery 3.0 but that only found xxxxxxxxxxxx.deleteme.tmp files with a size of 0. I believe these files can be correlated to the shows I deleted and this indicates that BTV is doing more than a simple deletion of the file and I don't understand why? At least by deleting in Windows Explorer I have a workaround to what I think is a stupid design flaw in BTV. However, with all of the impressive work they do with the upgrades this problem just seems to get no attention. It would make BTV a lot more user friendly. Losing files does not do much for user morale. Can anyone confirm how BTV handles deletion of files when you go to the BTV UI then select a show and then click the "Delete File" option below "Play". There is a nice trash can icon but no one should imply from this that the files can be recovered from the recycle bin. Don't know why not!!!! |

Re: BTV Handling of Delete Shows
The same reasoning that applies to windows having a recycle bin also applies to BTV. You may personally not want a way to undo mistakes but surely you can understand that some people would want it.
It should be a choice. |

Re: BTV Handling of Delete Shows
A choice would be a great option!
BTW, the recycle bin does not need to be "managed". When it gets full the operating system just deletes older files in the recycle bin to make room. Most people won't even know it's happening. I do see a down side of using hte recycle bin. My system is a dedicated PC and the only files that get deleted are video files, however, if BTV was running on my main PC (could be the majority case) and deleted video files were causing my old word documents and excel sheets to get flushed form the recyble bin then that might get annoying. An advanced setting would probably be the best way to enable deleted shows to go to the recycle bin. |

Re: BTV Handling of Delete Shows
I think there is a difference between BeyondTV deleting files because of lack of space and a user manually deleting a file because of desire.
It is reasonable that the two would be treated differently.

Re: BTV Handling of Delete Shows
The behavior I am questioning is NOT what happens when BTV deletes files due to lack of space. As I said in the first post, I go to a show and select Delete File. I chose to delete the file and I want to be able to undo my stupid mistake (the wife was not done watching it!).
