QAM again

I've been using a KWorld 110 with BTV for a couple of years but I don't use the OTA HDTV function because the experience has been so problematic. I just noticed that KWorld now has a 115 card that supports QAM but ony with ArcSoft's TotalMedia. See here: http://www.kworldcomputer.com/support/FAQ_012.htm

I guess I'm wondering if ArcSoft can support QAM why BTV can't support QAM? It seems like BTV is supporting QAM in HDHR; so what is different about the KWorld card or the Fusion card, for that matter?

The only QAM BTV supports (yes it does now support QAM) is with the HDHomeRun since it's maker has developed BDA drivers for the device. Don't buy anything other than an HDHomeRun if you want QAM with BeyondTV. More on the HDHomeRun at the link in my sig

Re: QAM again

I also use the kworld atsc-110, but oppisote of you - i stopped using the analog side and only use the HD side! Decided there's enough HD for me, don't need analog.

The HDHR company made their own bda drivers, which is what BTV uses. None of those other cards have made bda drivers (yet?).

While the other companies might have BDA drivers, the problem is that QAM isn't part of the MicroSoft spec, thus the remap trick used for the HDHomeRun...

I know the tuner cards I have, except my Leadtek 2000, have BDA drivers, but are you saying Snapstream isn't pursuing QAM because it isn't in the MS specs?

I was being rhetorical in my OP. I think Snapstream could do QAM but it is my opinion that they don't want to commit their limited rersources to a feature that will benefit relatively few BTV users. Unless you get analog cable service directly from the wall, QAM is of no benefit and while the cable services may continue to provide analog service for the forseeable future, it will likely be very limited - perhaps a dozen channels and mostly the local "must carry" channels.

Re: QAM again

the issue is that there are no STANDARDIZED drivers for qam....and they, reasonably, do not want to have to make a unique design effort for every device out there

silicondust came up with a way to reuse the ota/atsc driver that already exists for ota......hence the support
