Web Admin Outside Home Network?

Some web admin questions:

1) Are there any security concerns with allowing the web admin port/web page through a router so it can be accessed via a free dynamic dns service? Can someone delete all my shows?

2) Can web admin be password protected? With a plug-in maybe?

3) How do other people secure web admin if they're able to access it outside their home network?

Thanks for any info.

Start by looking at this sticky:

Re: Web Admin Outside Home Network?

After turning on the password, is there a way to skip it when using web admin from the pc that has btv on it? It gets annoying having to enter the password every time I use webadmin from home, and it looks like that sticky shows a way to disable it for link, but I don't use that, I just use regular BTV.

Get Firefox or IE to save the password for you on the local machine.

Re: Web Admin Outside Home Network?

Or setup your outer to forward port 3389 and use Remote Desktop which is built right into Windows XP Pro and Vista.

Re: Web Admin Outside Home Network?

Or get into the Windows Home Server beta, forward ports 443, 80 and 4425 to the home server and be able to remote into any XP Pro, and some Vista on your network :P

Re: Web Admin Outside Home Network?

Okay, I am having a hard time trying to open the proper ports and forward the proper ports. I am currently running an Actiontec Router from my DSL provider and then an SMC 2804WBR Router. If someone can at least please just let me know the ports that need to be open to access the Web Admin that would be a great start.

I have been looking on the forums, but I just see a bunch of different port listed?

443, 80 4428, 3189, 8120, 8129?

If you just want web admin (and haven't changed the default port for Web Admin) 8129

Re: Web Admin Outside Home Network?

Here's a decent walkthrough, but ignore all the ports he says to forward. You only need what nanook mentioned for webadmin access. Your Actiontec hardware should be a modem, not a router, and need no modification.
