Can 4.6 and 3.74 coexist or Link or any suggestions

I am running 3.74 on my bedroom HTPC (single tuner, digital STB). Running 3.74 link on my all purpose computer in the basement. I use Link to schedule recordings etc and watch BTV recordings from the BTV server. I also run ATI MMC (a left over from an old AIW I had) on my Theatrix 550 tuner to watch/record TV while I work. Sometimes I run Link and ATI MMC at the same time to watch 2 football games at once (not much in the way of useful work happening when I do this).

ATI's support for MMC is non existant, it doesn't work well with hardware tuners and the new software (Catalyst Media Center) sucks. I recently acquired another digital STB, so I have been using the STB box remote to change channels and view the cableco EPG. I can then watch and/or record shows on my all purpose PC using the almost defunct MMC. This gets old pretty fast so and I started searching for an alternative to replace MMC.

My first thought was to install BTV so I downloaded 4.6 trial and guess what? It insists that I uninstall Link, before I caninstall it.

So then I decided to try Sage. It installed and with a lot of messing around I got it working and have been using it for the last 2 weeks (1 day left on my free trial). I even managed to get the serial port tuning on my STB enabled and it is working well with Sage. Sage plays BTV recordings and vice versa. It works well for me and I can still watch Link and Sage at the same time.

If I uninstall Link and install BTV 4.6 I can get a second snapstream.net account and run it like my bedroom BTV .......right??

BTV 4.6 can use the serial port to tune my STB (like Sage is doing now).............right?

If I do this, I could setup the same video folders on each server so that each could play the other's recordings......right?

But if I do this, I won't be able to watch 2 football games at once (no Link). So, could I run 4.6 in Link mode to connect to the 3.74 server and run my crappy old ATIMMC like I do now? Somehow I don't think so.
Or is there any way to buy 3.74 and use it in either link mode or server mode as needed? This 2 football game thing isn't a deal breaker, it is just fun sometimes. I would appreciate comments and suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: Can 4.6 and 3.74 coexist or Link or any suggestions

Well by the resounding silence, I guess nobody had any input, and my Sage Trial expired today (they only give 15 days). Sage works great for me in my somewhat unique setup and I don't have to uninstall Link or give up watching 2 football games at once (using Link and Sage). So I bought Sage for my basement PC.

FWIW, I now have BTV, BTV Link, Sage, ATI MMC, a networked HD media player (Linkplayer2) and a cableco DVR (Motorola 6416) So I think most of the bases are covered.

I missed this, or I would have answered. They cannot co-exist. BTV can act as link, so you could use it as link and run MMC to run two (I guess, never tried it), but the server would also have to be 4.6.

Lost track of the other questions, but I think those are the main ones.

Re: Can 4.6 and 3.74 coexist or Link or any suggestions

Thanks ts

That's kind of what I figured so that's why I got Sage. I can continue to use both Link and Sage on my basement PC, BTV on my bedroom HTPC and the cableco DVR in the family room.

I'll post a blurb on my adventures in Sageland after I have had a while to mess with it. Preliminary assessment is that it is way more complicated (less user friendly) than BTV to set up
