SVideo Input Problem

I used to record via the SVideo input all the time with my last setup, BTV3.5 and one 250-BTV card. A while back I added a second card, 150MCE, and upgraded to BTV 4.5. Today I am trying to record via the SVideo input for the first time with the new setup, and it just isn't working.

The first issue was having two cards, and two different SVideo choices per card made it a little confusing. I am now sure that I am plugged into the card whose option is chosen on the Web Admin page, but I am having absolutely no luck seeing the SVideo input when I choose Live TV.

Is there something stupid I am overlooking. I am pretty systematic, and I have spent a half hour screwing around with this, so I thought I'd post. Thanks.

BTW, why does each card have two different SVideo choices, as well as two different composite video choices?

Re: SVdideo Input Problem

The capture chipset actually can have as many as 10 video inputs for an assortment of video sources. Most hardware designers bring them out to various points for expansion. Some are used directly on the rear pci panel others are made available via headers on the board and some OEM system vendors use them for front connections and so on.

Unfortunately, often the card is shipped with one set of drivers from the chipset manfuactuer that has all the video combinations of their reference design active which means you'll see more sources that are necessarily present on your implementation of the card.

Dual svideo and dual composite are common options. You may find the 2nd inputs of each kind are on a header on the PCB or are not even populated to save a few cents on the board cost.

In short, if you don't see video on one input, try the other one.

If you can't get anywhere with btv, go back a step and use hauppauge's wint-tv program and see if you can get video there.

Re: SVdideo Input Problem

Thanks for the helpful reply. I used the WinTV Amcap utility, and I immediately saw the video coming in on the first composite input. I was pretty excited, and I went back to BTV, but no such luck, still nothing coming in except for tuner input. At least I know I am not crazy. There seems to be something messed up with my setup.

Maybe I'll just record off the coax input. Seems like the simplest option at this point.

I just saw that I should be posting over in the troubleshooting section, so that is where I'll go. Here is the new thread:
