Feature Request - SmartChapters in LiveTV
Would it be possible to generate SmartChapters in realtime, while watching live tv?
Imagine the following situation. You watch a live tv broadcast. A commercial appears. You press pause. You walk to the kitchen for a cool beverage. You return some minutes later and press a single button to immediately advance to the end of the commercials. The SmartChapter process would have to be reading the file as it is being generated, but that must be happening already to watch live tv, right? This seems feasible.

I don't think its possible. It takes time to process smart chapters and it requires a sizable portion of the file before and after the commercial to determine where the commercials are. Now maybe they could set it so that the start of the smart chapters begin when you hit pause, but I don't know how it would determine the end.
I don't think its a feature you would see any time soon.

Since upgrading my PC to an Athlon 64 3800+ Dual Core system, I've noticed that smartchapters generate a heck of a lot faster than on my old P4 2.4GHz system. Sometimes they're ready just a few minutes after a program has finished recording.
But I seriously doubt you could do them in realtime like that. At the very least, I think you'd have to restart the recording in order for them to register on the progress bar.
