HD Signal Strength in Viewscape
I'd love to have the HD Signal Strength displayed in the viewscape. A simple percentage right near the resolution. Is this something that is technically impossible? Would it be possible to record this stream of signal strength for saving with the stream, so that i can know exactly how badly out of place my antenna is or was during the recording?

Yes, I completely agree. We should be able to see the signal strength. May be make it optional, or show only when control are shown on screen.

I suspect that it is not technically possible.

Re: HD Signal Strength in Viewscape
The problem is that the manufacturers don't provide a standard GetSignalStrength method in their drivers and that SnapStream don't like doing customed jobs...

Re: HD Signal Strength in Viewscape
Here is a link to a small stand alone signal meter. Seems to work well. It is for HD only

Re: HD Signal Strength in Viewscape
I've tried the VB Signal Strength Meter, and it works well for me on the Hauppauge HVR-1600. I assumed that since this small app worked without having to select a specific tuner configuration that it was somehow part of the bda driver thing? or possibly a calculation based on digital signal data received? Can anyone confirm how this program accesses the signal strength? I know i have conflicts if i try to use it simultaneously with watching HDTV.

Re: HD Signal Strength in Viewscape
The way I make it work is to simply click on atsc and then build graph, then when the window opens, then put in physical channel. I went to antennaweb.org http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx and put in my zip code and submited it and when it brings up a small map of your area, after you get your location set it then brings up all of the stations in your area. Then use the frequecy assignment in the last colunm for your physical channel number.
Leave the major and minor at default of -1 then click set channel and it should display your signal strenght. You do not need to be watching any channel on the tv or computer

Re: HD Signal Strength in Viewscape
Yes of course you can't watch tv while using vbsignalmeter... only one program can tune at a time, doh.
If Snapstream does implement a signal strength meter into BTV (which would be great so I don't have to use VBsignalmeter anymore) they need to improve their method, the one in the setup wizard is pathetic, it basically shows all or nothing, vbsignalmeter is much much much better.

Re: HD Signal Strength in Viewscape
I agree that the setup wizard's signal strength meter is pathetic and slow. My main point was to note that since the vb program didn't ask me for a specific card model, does that mean that the signal strength is a generic thing that BTV could do better? i'd have to think it is. They can obviously access that information in the Setup. Why can't they add it to the viewscape? or is it something that's mutually exclusive with watch/recording shows on the tuner?
