Tweak UI: A must have!

So I got tired of the login screen, auto running DVDs (DVDs with the Interactual software) and all sorts of things that HTPCs don't need. I had used tweak UI in years past and remembered it had functions that could help.

If you want to remove auto runs on certain drives, have an auto login for the welcome screen, and much more, try it out. Free download from Microsoft. You can also remove a lot of things that you may never use to make the pc a little swifter.

Re: Tweak UI: A must have!

The newest version is def better. I use it to auto-login the PVR box and turned off some crap I don't need.

When you install the newest version it'll populate the "programs" folder not the control panel like the old version.

So far TweakUI only works in 32 bit OS. Haven't seen the 64bit version which would have been nice.

Re: Tweak UI: A must have!

Yup, just used it for the auto login and worked like a champ. My login has to login 1st or btv doesn't work right because I'm the only one who is admin.

Re: Tweak UI: A must have!

The auto login feature is a MUST for an HTPC. The firefly will not work in the login menu, just a mouse and KB. That means you have have to make sure everyone in the house knows how to login, they have to get up, etc. This just works much nicer. I also like how much faster and easier it is to tweak the autorun settings on specific drives.

The Firefly Mini does work with the login screen, as long as the password is numerical. I've used it in the past when I would remote in and it would kick the PC to the login screen.

Re: Tweak UI: A must have!

If ya wanna get supa freaky with yo tweaky, try X-Setup 6.3 (the last freeware version). Maybe overkill on a standalone HTPC, though.

Re: Tweak UI: A must have!

Flickey, mentions the startup screen in outlook. Wonder if it gets rid of it? If so, can it do if for the firefly splash screen?

Re: Tweak UI: A must have!

I mostly use it to manage startup garbage, but now that you mention it, I do see that it can disable the OE startup splash screen. It can do the same for Eudora and a few other programs, but it appears to be very specific to each program. Perhaps with a little reverse engineering, or careful cause/effect registry monitoring, one could decipher how to disable a different splash screen.
