Chopped Up Recording--Lost Video

Hopefully there's a simple solution to this.

I newly installed BTV and everything's been fine, except that I tried to record a hockey game in HD over the course of about 3 hours. I was using MPEG2. The interface indicated that it was being recorded throughout the recording, and I could go to any point in the game. This was a test run for me, and so I looked at the files being recorded, and noticed that the recording was being split up into multiple files limited to about 2 Gb. When the recording finished, I looked at the files and all but the last one was gone! Also, through the interface the recording only showed the the chunk of the last part of the game that had been recorded. There's tons of space on the hard disk, so I can't understand how this happened.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Chopped Up Recording--Lost Video

Are you sure that you were looking at the recorded files and not the hidden files that are aloways being written to the buffer? Where is your default recording folder?

It sounds like your disk is formatted in FAT32 as opposed to NTFS. FAT32 has a file size limitation of 2GB. YOU will need to reformat your disk. Use Google you can reformat from FAT32 to NTFS without losing your data.

Re: Chopped Up Recording--Lost Video

Nope!!!

FAT 32 has a 4 GB file limit. FAT 16 (used on Win 98 and earlier) had a 2 GB limit.

Re: Chopped Up Recording--Lost Video

Yea he is right, it's been a while since I have dealt with either. I guess that came to mind first as I have seen this problem come up quite a few times in the forum and that was the first thing I thought of. That could still be the issue if your system has been upgraded from previous versions of windows, and you never did a fresh re-install.

E:\Beyond_TV is the folder I created

Files Now:

NHL Hockey-(Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers)-2007-01-04-3.mpg
1,215,639 Kb

NHL Hockey-(Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers)-2007-01-04-3.mpg.index.dat
5 Kb

ts0.header.dat
10,240

ts0.index.dat
5 Kb

Previously there were

NHL Hockey-(Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers)-2007-01-04-1.mpg
NHL Hockey-(Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers)-2007-01-04-2.mpg

each about 2 Gb (since they're gone I can't say precisely).

These erased files are not in the recycle bin.

Again I note that in the recording only the last part is left despite the fact that I could see the whole thing until it finished recording.
