[DualTV] Setting up second tuner...

Hello,

I just recently finished building and installing my first HTPC (specs in sig). I have the first tuner on the DualTV working great and can successfully watch, record, etc. Live TV.

However, my question is regarding the second tuner on the DualTV. I tried searching these forums (as well as the offical KB) and couldn't come up with an answer. According to the information on NVIDIA's web site, the DualTV has an internal amplifier/splitter that allows it to utilize both tuners on a single input source.

I've tried to simply setup a second input source using the webadmin, by selecting the second listed capture device and using the same other settings as the primary tuner. While recording, when I change the channel, it attempts to switch to the new channel (without telling me that I'm recording currently), which I assume means that it is successfully attempting to use the second tuner. But I get no audio or video when the channel changes. However, my original recording program continues to record normally.

So, how does one setup the second tuner in BeyondTV? I'm using BeyondTV 4.5 and I have Comcast Digital Cable coming from a Motorola set-top box into the SVID1 and AUD1 inputs of the DualTV (not using the RF input). Does BeyondTV support the internal amplifier/splitter of the DualTV? Do I need to use an external splitter and use the second set of inputs on the DualTV also? Is the internal amplifier/splitter of the DualTV only for the RF input?

Thanks for any help,

Dave

To split the ANALOG cable signal, sure...

What you need is a second Motorola set-top box connected to the second set of inputs, as the output of those boxes is a single channel, the one selected by the box...

Yes, there is nothing to split from the s-video/audio output...

The BTV setup wizard can help setu[p the second tuner from your card. You should see the FM tuner and 2 TV tuners listed in BTV wizard, if not you should add source and set it up.

Re: [DualTV] Setting up second tuner...

Thanks for the replies.

So, in order to use the S-Video inputs on the DualTV, I need a second set-top box - don't wanna do that just yet.

This brings up another question though:

I imagine splitting the signal from the wall into the set-top box and the HTPC would provide me with my dual tuner functionality (though only the analog signals on the second tuner if I understand correctly), but is it possible to still use the composite outputs of the set-top box in addition to the RF output into the DualTV (allowing me to record with better inputs while watching on the RF input)?

In other words, can I continue using my current setup (composite output from the set-top box into the SVID1 and AUD1 inputs of the DualTV) and then simply hook up a split RF to the DualTV to get the other tuner working with the analog signal?

Thanks again for the help.

Yes and you can even go one step further, by adding your 2 analog tuners... Just make sure to have one digital and one analog lineup. Then by hiding the appropriate channels and selecting the right order of tuners, you can control the recordings according to your preferences. While you can't record simultaneously the analog and digital feed from tuner 1, you could record 2 analog channels on the PC while watching a third directly on the TV + STB combo.
