Re: CPU usage

"Typical" is going to vary depending on your hardware and settings (Overlay vs Hardware Acc, choice of decoders, etc). But on my BTV system as shown in specs below, using Overlay and ATI/Cyberlink video with SS Audio decoders it averages around 35-40%.

Re: CPU usage

How do you select an ATI video decoder? I have Cyberlink on the list (from the DVD player I thought) but not ATI.

Re: CPU usage

You have to download the ATI-specific one from their site...see this thread.

Re: CPU usage

Clams you have to have an ATI AIW or tuner install disc with the ATI dvd player on it before you can download the ATI Cyberlink codec. FWIW, I find it better than the SS codec.

Re: CPU usage

Also FWIW the Snapstream or Intervideo codecs are much better in terms of true performance.

For instance Mamba says he/she sees 35-40% cpu using overlay and ati/cyberlink, on a P4 3.0?

I see 20% cpu on an athlon 2.0...

So, I'm just saying quality comes with a price. And really I dont see much difference in quality between them.

Re: CPU usage

BTV4.6 on XPMCE running on Athlon XP1800 with 512MB Ram and PVR-150MCE I get CPU usage varying from 20% to 60% and ~235MB RAM free. I wrote a small C# overlay app that shows me the CPU Usage and Mem Free as a box on the lower left hand side of the screen so I can see the usage while watching TV. I use it to debug this whole jerky playback thing from AVI files and see whats going on with the CPU when it happens.
