Hauppauge 45 button remote

This thing is working great for me so far, but I'd like to customize a couple of buttons, (1) I'd like to have the "TV" button start live TV when in the viewscape. (2) The "power" button shuts down the viewscape which is a great feature, however it doesn't start the viewscape, which would be even better. Any way to customize this remote with BTV?

Search for IRREMOTE.INI usually in your C:\Windows folder. Edit the BTV entries at the bottom of the file. There's a sticky around here somewhere describing how to do it. If you modify the file make a copy...Unless they changed it BTV wipes out your customized version whenever you run the setup program. As far as your Power Button question....I don't think you can do 2 things with one button..there's no logic built in. You would have to have one button to turn off the viewscape and another to turn it on. The entries in the INI file for file paths is tricky. It doesn't work with long filenames you you have to use the old 8.1 names such as "snapst~1\" instead of "snapstream\". If you open a DOS window and type dir /x it will show you the short names of the folders and files.

Personally, I set up the "TV" button to launch BTV and use the power button to shut it down. I had to edit irremote.ini as grandpaken said, and i also had to create a .bat file and put it in the WinTV directory (where the IR software runs from).

That bat file simply says:
start D:\Progra~1\Beyond~1\BTVD3DShell.exe

and I had to edit irremote.ini like this:
TVNEW={run(btv.bat)}

that replacing what you have for TVNEW.

Of course you'd have to replace my d:... path with whatever your path is to the btv shell.

yes please backup your current irremote.ini. although my version of btv (4.5) does *not* overwrite the file when i run config, it is still good to have a working backup before you make changes.

Also note you will need to shut down the IR program and restart it from its shortcut in Programs->Startup->Autostart IR before the changes take effect.

Awesome, this is exactly what I want to do. So just to clarify, do I put "TVNEW={run(btv.bat)}" here :

Also, I have my in the same directory as you (d, but it is d:\program files\snapstream media\beyond tv, can anyone tell me what the short word would be for "snapstream media"

And for anyone else who may have the same questions as you, yes that appeared to be the right place for the TVNEW. And the short pathnames are typically the first 6 characters and ~1. But if you have another folder with the same first 6 characters it may be ~2, etc.

To find the 8.3 DOS filenames go to a command line Start > Run > cmd.

From there you can do a dir /x to see what the short filenames would be.

I'm sure it's mentioned someplace else, but this is how I have the irremote.ini set up to turn on/off the viewscape:

[Default]
GRNPOWER={run(c:\progra~1\snapst~1\Beyond~1\BTVD3D Shell.exe)}

[Beyond TV]
GRNPOWER={ctrl}{shift}{f1}


This allows me to turn on the Viewscape from the desktop, and then once in Beyond TV, turn it off once I'm done.

Ok well i have tried this two methods and they dont work for me. can anyone help me.

change
TVNEW={run(BTV.bat)}

to use the full drive and path in DOS 8.3 format.
