converting files

Ok so I have a pvr500 type b and looks good if I leave it as a mpg file... but the 3+gb is what sucks.. I have a 100gb drive... so I could put a bigger drive but not until after xmas.
I tried having it convert to wmv and it is too unbearable... although it is only 1gb for the hr show opposed to the 3gb file....

is there anyway to adjust the file conversion? I have it set to best quality for conversion.....

Thanks
Jeff

Re: converting files

Why not try divx via show squeeze? It might be faster.

Re: converting files

Now, that is a good reason!!! LOL

Don't know if this will help, but have a look at my posts in the following thread
ATI Avivo Video Converter

I still use this stand alone converter for a lot of conversions because it is so fast. You don't need to have any ATI hardware to use it. I don't use wmv, but the Avivo encoder will encode to wmv9. For a test I just used it to encode a 4.1 GB mpeg2 recording to wmv9 at 640x480 and 5000 kbps. Resulting file was 1.9GB and played in WMP10 at OK quality. It took only 16 min for the conversion. I'll run a couple more at higher and lower bit rates, if this is any use to you, I don't know if xbox plays wmv9?

Re: converting files

I spent a week with Xbox 360 support before someone finally told me that I couldn't play recorded tv wmv files over my Xbox 360. Only Windows Media Center will do that, not Media Connect.

Re: converting files

I have this hacked version of the avivo video converter.

EDIT: ran the install cmd on the hacked version. I'm assuming it installed in my Catalyst. How can I be sure?

Re: converting files

cf
Its been a long time but I think I just opened the zip file and extracted the contents to a folder. Then ran seup.bat This opened a command line window and I followed instructions (mostly press any key to continue) until it told me it was installed. There should be a read me file in the zip that explains all this. .

It places the Avivoxcode.exe file in a folder. I moved it to my ATI driver folder. Just clik on the exe and it launces the encoder. It does not launch from the ATI CCC.

PM me if you can't get it going.

You can use a standard PC without MCE to send WMV files to an XBOX360 with a program called TVersity. The nice thing is it will take a standard MPEG and convert on the fly to watch on the XBox360, the only drawback is it uses about 90% CPU utilization. If the file is already a WMV is streams it without the conversion.

Re: converting files

I believe you can also do it with the latest version of Windows Media Player

Yes you can stream WMV files with WMV11 but there are current problems with it and BTV, also TVersity can transcode from DivX and MPEG2 on the fly to play on the 360.

Would be nice if MS came around and just supported MPEG2 or Divx directly, but I think hell would freeze over first.
