Can't get my BTV 4.4 working anymore

Here's the story.

I had BTV 3.51 working great on my Soyo Athlon 1.7 system. Windows XP Pro with SP2 and a GeForce 4 MX card, PVR250 TV card. Then I upgraded the video card to a newer ATi 9250 and worked flawlessly. Then upgraded to BTW 4.4 and again worked perfectly and the system has been working for 2 years without a problem

Decided to build a spare PVR system from some spare computer parts instead of tying up my desktop system.

So I have 2 spare systems built, neither of which work at all. One is a A7V8X Asus board (latest BIOS) with 1.7 Athlon, 768Mb RAM, 120Gb HDD, using the old GeForce 4 MX card and the PVR250, fresh build of XP Pro and SP2 with latest PVR250 drivers (tried old ones too) and BTW 4.4. I get No video at all, just sound, sometimes I get video on channe 2. Tried all the suggestions as per FAQ and tried all sorts of drivers.

The other is a Pentium Celeron on a M4MA-L board, 512Mb RAM
, 120Gb HDD, GeForce 2 MX card, PVR250 board, BTV4.4 and tried all sorts of drivers as per FAQ's again. No video, sometimes I get channel 2 to work.

This is driving me insane, I have tried now 2 complete seperate systems, drivers, cards, etc etc but nothing. Arggggg!!!!

Any help or suggestions welcomed!

Gethin.

Re: Can't get my BTV 4.4 working anymore

I assume the "no video" is when you are setting up the channel lineup in the setup wizard. Have you tried the Haup WinTV tool to see if that works? Any errors in Device Manager or Event Logs?

Maybe this is your solution?
VisionTek 550 pro...no audio or video

Re: Can't get my BTV 4.4 working anymore

Yeah BTV does not work at all even if I skip the wizard audio/video test as described in that link.

On the A7V8X if I try the TV2000 software, as soon as it opens my computer freezez solid, on the P4MA-L board it works fine, video and audio, except nothing in BTV.

On both systems I get video on channel 2 during the BTV test and then no video on the other channels, but I do get audio. On both systems I get nothing in the system logs.

It's a rev. B185 250 card.

Strange.......

A shot in the dark, but could it be a signal strength issue? Is it possible that you installed a couple of splitters and a long run or piece of crappy cable while connecting your new boxes?

Re: Can't get my BTV 4.4 working anymore

I've tried a brand new cable from the wall socket to the card, a short one too around 6 feet. Still the same problem.

I'm determined to root this out, i'll post my findings as I go along.

Cheers,

Gethin.

Re: Can't get my BTV 4.4 working anymore

I'd focus on getting WinTV to work first. This doesn't sound like a BTV problem, but an underlying hardware problem. Have you tried putting the card in every available slot? Have you disabled everything on the motherboard you can? (serial port, printer port, etc.). I suspect an interrupt conflict.

Re: Can't get my BTV 4.4 working anymore

Tried all slots in both machines. It detects the card again if I change slots.

If I enable the plug and play BIOS on the A7V8X I get a blue screen and a stop code after installing the PVR250 drivers. If I disable P&P then it goes into windows XP ok. I've just tried an other fresh install, this time I did not load service pack 2, and TV2000 runs, scans all the channels, but I get no video (at least PC does not hang).

It's just trial and error at this point.

Gethin.

Re: Can't get my BTV 4.4 working anymore

Maybe it's a VIA chipset/drivers issue (at least on the asus board)?

Re: Can't get my BTV 4.4 working anymore

Yeah I think so, after hours of trying to get those two to work, I gave up. I have a spare second Soyo board which i've rescued and it works perfectly. Oh well.

Gethin.
