Suggestion - Filename formatting

Just figured I'd suggest that BTV allow you to change the format of the filenames it generates. You might as well base it off the mp3 precendent, and use %* symbols to allow the user to customize the format.

For example, I would use "%S -(%D)- %E" so shows would at least be arranged by date in explorer ("Show -(date)- Episode.mpg").

I know this would be a mundane feature, but why not..?

I've been asking for this for awhile but BTV doesn't have Season/episode info.

Re: Suggestion - Filename formatting

Well, my point of having filename formatting is basically so the season info isn't needed (arranging by date would accomplish the same thing, as long as you always record the episode when new). Since the intended result is basically to have BTV keep the show info but also have the shows arranged in order in explorer, I guess a file rename dialog (within BTV) would also be acceptable. But now that you mention it, there is no reason why snapstream can't track episode/season info as well...

Re: Suggestion - Filename formatting

Date wouldn't do it if I miss an episode and have to catch that one as a rerun. I want (and have been asking for) season and episode. It's a 3 minute programming fix. I don't understand why they don't do it.

Maybe for your home programming project, but if your a business and have quality control in place even the simplest code change can be a big deal. Not to say your request is not valid, but scheduling a task and prioritizing all the software issues outstanding is not an easy thing. There are lots of other 3 minute code changes that others want as well, so lets not forget that.

Re: Suggestion - Filename formatting

I didn't say the entire process was 3 minutes. I did this for a living for a long time.

But it has been a request since 3.x, so the 3 minute fix would have had plenty of chances to be tested, re-tested and re-re-tested.

So maybe 4 minutes.

Re: Suggestion - Filename formatting

Would also love to see episode numbers in there data! Drives me crazy actually that it's not in there. Specialy when recording form more than one channel, with out them numbers you don't really know unless you look at each one's air date one by one what one was actually first. Not to mention searching for new shows via the episode #1 tag :-)
