Minor Suggestion: "New" Recording Indicator
I don't know if this would be better classified under a "bug" or "unintended feature", but I would like to suggest that in the next release, BTV should make it so that if you watch a video that was initially recorded in MPEG-2, and is later converted to another format, such as AVI, that it does not mark the new encoded version as "New".
Currently, even if you already watched a video, as soon as it is converted to its new format, it is marked as "New" again, even though you already watched it. Hopefully this is a minor and easily implementable suggestion. |

Re: Minor Suggestion: "New" Recording Indicator
I "sorta" agree. Technically it IS a new file. What I have done is to have all my show-squeezed files saved to a "Squeezed" folder, and have it automatically delete the original. This gets rid of it showing up when in the folder view. But it still shows as "new" in the title and genre view.
I have been doing a lot of squeezing lately, and I can see where you are coming from. I show-squeeze to archive the shows. And just about all of them are watched the night they were recorded. So the next day I'm seeing all kinds of "new" shows that were only squeezed but were already watched. I have a somewhat more involved possible solution. Just create a "new" new tag for any show that was show-squeezed. Ie. Regular new shows still say <NEW> and those that are show-squeezed say <NEW SS> or something like that. Keeps the best of both worlds I think.

Re: Minor Suggestion: "New" Recording Indicator
It's more of an annoyance than anything to me. I do think it is something SnapStream should look into fixing. Calling something new when it has already been watched is not all that great.

Re: Minor Suggestion: "New" Recording Indicator
I agree that this is an issue and an annoyance. It would be nice for the "New" indicator to be tied to the episode meta-data rather than the file name and path etc. I think i also experience a similar issue when i move files in windows explorer to a different drive. The worst is that even though the file is listed as "New", it seems to still remember where in the program i left off watching (obviously indicating that the show should not be considered "New" anymore.)
Another issue i have with the "New" indicator is when i use my external hard drive. I archive shows to this drive, (typically none of the shows are "new") but whenever i remove the drive while the computer is on, and later reconnect it, beyond tv marks all of the shows in the folders as "New" again. I guess i understand that this could cause a bloated database of historical "new" data if btv had to keep record of all shows that disappeared, but it's just really annoying to have to go in and play each file again to remove the indicator. It would definitely help to have at least a keyboard shortcut to toggle the "new" indicator. This would also provide at least some way of marking a watched show as "new" if I'd like (Similar to the "Mark as unread" option in email.) |

Re: Minor Suggestion: "New" Recording Indicator
I agree too. Also, when the wife is watching a show (that was just recorded .mpeg format), then takes too long to watch. It's already converted to a showsqueeze format then it's unwatchable (.mpg) because it was deleted. This pisses her off.

Re: Minor Suggestion: "New" Recording Indicator
It seems to me that what is happening is that the software is "monitoring" the folders and when something appears that wasn't there the last time it looked, it's automatically tagged as "new".
From a programming point of view I could understand why they might do that. But still it might be possible to fine tune it a bit. Of course this is all a guess on my part. And it might explain when you move something already watched to another folder why it gets tagged as "new".
