Gyration Keyboard & Mouse Tips needed.

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Gyration Keyboard and Mouse suite 2.4GHz. I like how everything works but the WAF (wife acceptance factor) is rather low.

I'm wondering either-

1. Can someone share their tips on how they have their GyroTools setup

-OR-

2. Is there a place where people can download preference files .gfp

Over time I'm sure I will have everything configured properly, but until then, I'd like to tap into the great minds who ALREADY have one!

Thanks in advance!

Re: Gyration Keyboard & Mouse Tips needed.

Well, I have a Gyration keyboard and mouse on my Beyond TV server. The keyboard has become our standard "remote" for the machine. The "gyration" feature of the mouse is kind of a cool wiz-bang feature, but we end up using it just by rolling it along couch. I'm a bit disappointed in the mouse's build quality. The right button often sticks down and the left button often double-clicks with just a single click.

As to using the other buttons: I experimented briefly with the GyroTools app to configure the buttons, but I could never figure out how to get the configuration changes to stick past a re-boot or logout. That was a pain, so I quickly gave up. The GyroTools app also seems rather immature.

Re: Gyration Keyboard & Mouse Tips needed.

Thank you for your response,

I'm glad you verified that for me because I was having a hard time trying to get the mouse configured to something useful. The Gyro tools are way too watered down and I wasn't sure if there was a work-around.
I guess not.

I'm a little disappointed. Something so innovative and yet lacking in functionality.

Looks like my I.R. Remote is still the reigning champ with the keyboard coming in second and mouse ranking last in the useful category.

Re: Gyration Keyboard & Mouse Tips needed.

I hope you have good luck with your Gyration keyboard. I had one, loved it for a few months and then hated it until it hit the trashcan at about 12 months. The stupid thing would work perfectly for a week or two and then the range would suddenly drop to only a few inches for a few days. Nothing would get the range to come back to normal other than just waiting for it to fix itself. I thought that mine was a fluke, but a few months later my friends started doing the exact same thing. Really frustrating for a $100+ product.

Yeah, I don't think I have the definitive word on the Gyrotools app -- I toyed with it for about half an hour or so and then gave up. I could program the extra mouse buttons to do what I wanted, but I couldn't get the changes to stick. I'm sure there must be a way, but I didn't want to invest the time.....

Re: Gyration Keyboard & Mouse Tips needed.

I actually like the product- I like the way the keyboard works and how small it is. I like the mouse and how it works after getting used to it.

I just *HATE* the Gyrotools it comes equipped with (so far) to operate the mouse.
It is really limited with it's features and it only caters to Windows MCE.

I sent an e-mail to Gyration asking them to please take a look at snapstream.com and sagetv.com because their product could be better than what it is right now if they took the time to add just a few more features.

Me, too...but RCA/Thompson's tech support leaves a whole lot to be desired. Whatever you do, do not send questions to them via email...you'll get the only answer they have (call the tech line) in an overlong subject field of the message. Then when you call, they can't help you anyway.

Question: does anyone have a supplier for the antenna on the RF Receiver? I suppose I could stick pretty much anything on it, but I'd prefer to replace the one I accidentally snapped off with one tuned to the box.
