Question Multiple Hauppauge Tuners Question

Hi everyone,

I'm afraid the answer will be "no," but I figured I should ask before I just chuck my 2nd tuner card into the lake. I, of course without looking into it first, just purchased a Hauppauge WinTV-Go PCI card (software encoding) in the hopes of installing a long overdue 2nd tuner in my PVR (I already have a Hauppauge PVR-150 that uses hardware encoding). After ordering it, I figured I should look into whether it works with Beyond TV or not (duh!) and was very happy to find that it does! But, in looking into it more (basically trying to see how I would be able to tell Beyond TV, once this new card was installed, which tuner to use first all the time) I found an FAQ on multiple tuners that says that unless one card is an HD card, you can't have a set up that has a software encoding card and a hardware encoding card! Double Farts!

First, is this 100% true?

Second, if it is, is there anyway at all around it?

Third, if not, does anyone want to buy a Win-TV Go card from me... I'll give you a good deal!

Re: Multiple Hauppauge Tuners Question

At one time I had that configuration and it was fine, at that time it was 'not recommended' to do that. You may want to just go ahead and try it! But plan on having the cycles available for driving the software card if you keep it.

Re: Multiple Hauppauge Tuners Question

Agreed, it is not recommended or officially supported by SS, however I have 2 dual HW cards, and 1 single SW card in my HTPC and have no problems.

I have the SW card setup as the last input which forces the HTPC to use the HW cards first.

Re: Multiple Hauppauge Tuners Question

Thanks guys! Awesome! I will give it a whirl when it arrives. I was thinking that I just wasted $15 (not too bad when considering a computer upgrade, but still $15 I could have put towards a HW encoding card). This forum is always helpful. I'll try to post again once I have a chance to plop it in. Hopefully not with BSOD errors or anything like that, though!

Re: Multiple Hauppauge Tuners Question

Finally had time to install the card and it works! For some reason, it caused my Hauppauge! remote to stop working (the IR service just would not start any more, just gave me errors!). I tried a ton of stuff (like running HCWClear and reinstalling the drivers for my two cards and the remote in a bunch of different ways & re-seating the cards), but to no avail. Just as I was reaching the end of my rope, I remembered that in the BeyondTV bundle that I bought, I got a free FireFly Mini remote that was packed away in a closet somewhere. I uninstalled the Hauppauge! remote and fired up the FireFly (no pun intended) and voila! Instant remote satisfaction. I actually like the FireFly remote better than the Hauppauge! (although the button placement could have been a bit smarter... FF and RW at the bottom of the remote?... Hello! Those are used the MOST!). It definitely is more responsive, though! Thanks for giving me the confidence that this was worth trying, guys!
