Non-Stop Recording

Hallo,

is it possible, to record one ( or multiple ) channels permanently ? If yes, what about the file ? Is it splitted in several blocks ( 1k for example ) or are multiple file s produced with different filename ?
Thanks

Re: Non-Stop Recording

You should be able to set up a manual recording to record daily. If you record twice a day for 12 hours you will have 2 files a day.

Re: Non-Stop Recording

It depends what you are trying to do... If you are recording the feed of a security camera or such, than as suggested, one or more manual recordings would be the easiest way to do it.

On the other hand, if you are recording a movie channel or such, you would probably want something more selective like my addon (BTV-Negociator, link in my signature -> expert mode -> channel sub-tab) to have each show/movie recorded only once and in its own file with the correct description...

AW: Non-Stop Recording

Hallo,

1. We use a Hauppauge PVR-150 . Using the Hauppauge-RecordingSoftware the tuner synchronizes each time the recording is started. If a movie spans over more "splitted" files, the concatination-result is bad because of the synchronization. May be this will not happen if we use BeyondTV.
2. We want to record TV-channels in a 24x7 mode. At least 10 TV/radio channels.

Have you experience with multiple tunes cards in one PC ( 3.2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, ... ) ?

Re: Non-Stop Recording

You can fit as many tuner cards in one PC as you have slots to hold them. The only drawback that I am aware of is the nVidia DualTV tuner card - the driver only supports one card at this time. If that issue gets resolved, all my PCI slots will be holding DualTV cards.

One of your cards should be the nVidia DualTV.

Other dual cards will record one channel off of a cable feed another another from svideo/composit, but not both from a cable feed like the DualTV can.

If you're actually going to try to record 10 shows at the same time, I would recommend multiple large SATA drives and configure BTV to record no more than a few channels on a given drive. Maybe more if you drop the recording quality down from Best.

Oh, and by all means, turn off SmartChapters.

But one question comes to mind - why record constant TV?

Hallo jbartlett777,

thanks for your posting.

As I mensioned above I have no idea about splitting the recording in several files automatically. Does BeyondTV support it ?

PS: The reason for constant TV recording is the possibility to record all newscasts and to give some parts of those newscast to our press stuff.

In addition to the two methods mentionned previously, you could also use a single daily manual recording on a FAT32 hard drive, which would be automatically split in files less than 4 Gb...

For what you are trying to accomplish -- our Enterprise BeyondTV would be more applicable -- please go to this page:

Unfortunately, we are only supplying our Enterprise TV Servers here in the United States and Canada at the moment.
