ShowSqueezing for the Motorola Q

I've had a Motorola Q for a little over a month now, along with a 2GB mini-SD card to go with it. In my free time I've been doing some testing to find the best settings so i can take my tv recordings with me.

I haven't perfected the qualities yet, but with a little more time (and maybe some help from any other Q ownder) they should be perfect.

WMV:

Audio:

Windows Media Audio 9.1
64kbps, 48hz, stereo (A/V) CBR

Video:
Windows Media Video V7
30.000 fps
320x240
250kbps
Resize Enabled

This has produced some very nice looking Futurama episodes, playable by the included Windows Media Player.

DivX:

29.97 fps
320x240
300kbps video
64kbps audio
Resize Style: Keep Aspect Ratio

The DivX files require TCPMP to play, but so far my conversion attempt has worked quite well. My latest conversion was actually an HD recording of The Tonight Show, and it was very watchable. The video quality wasn't quite perfect, so I think some further tweaking of the video bitrate may be in order. However, these should serve as a nice starting point for any other Q order.

Re: ShowSqueezing for the Motorola Q

I wonder if the quality would be different if you didn't re-size the video. If you are capturing in the typical DVD mpeg quality at 720 x 480 it would seem that there would be less final quality by compressing it down to 320 x 240. That as opposed to capturing in mpeg at 320 x 240 to begin with. (if that is possible?)

I know in the old days when we were fiddling with frame size changes and trans-coding I found it produced better results if you started with a large frame and then re-encoded to a smaller frame. As opposed to starting with a small frame and re-encoding to a larger frame. One would think going from 720 x 480 to a 320 x 240 would be the best. With a larger starting frame the encoding engine has lots of data to deal with. With a smaller starting frame the encoder then has to "guess" how to add the detail and usually you end up with a lesser quality picture.

I just wonder what would happen if you kept the frame size the same from capture to encode?

Forget compressing video to move to a miniSD card. I've seen videos of the Q streaming video from a slingbox. How do we do this with BeyondTV?
