Show Analyzer

Anyone here on the forums use SA in conjunction with BT? Let me know your thoughts and if you have gotten it to work successfully. I'm not 100% happy with SS and I think SA offers the functionality I want, but haven't gotten great results. I have looked into ComSkip as well; but havent tried it.

Re: Show Analyzer

It's a program for detecting commercial that is fast..

blurb from their website...

"Simply put, ShowAnalyzer is the most advanced commercial detection program available to the public... plus a little extra."

You may want to expand on what you mean by work with BTV.

As you already know(we have been communicating on the VRD forum), I have SA, comskip and AdScan(VRD) working perfectly with BTV for my specific needs but your needs are different than mine so you may want to specifically state them here.

I have compared comskip to SA and to AdScan. In terms of finding scene changes/commercial breaks AdScan IMO is the best, I would rate SA as close but second and comskip as third. All of these apps are way better than SmartChapter.

SA has a nice GUI and more options than AdScan.

You are right Bits...What I am looking for is a realtime solution for chapter marking of commercials. I would like to delay watching a show for 5 mins, hit play and have up to the second bookmarks placed in the file I am watching. This may be impossible to do on a working file, so we will see. Anyway, smart chapter is not that trusty imo. I would never just run a program to cut out what SC has defined as a commerical without checking the whole show first...which is no good for me. I will check out AdScan i believe.

where can this be found bits?

I apologize, Adscan is Ad-Detective from VideoReDo. The VRD folks created a script for doing Ad-Detecive and that script is called Adscan.vbs.

Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Show Analyzer

How would one go about setting up BTV to use AdDetective instead of the built in SmartChapter?

This should get you started: http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/sh...0598#post20598

BTW all of the credit for this really goes to a number of folks on this forum.

I use both Comskip and VideoRedo frequently. Comskip has an option to scan for commercials while the program is still recording. In my experience, it is finished within a few minutes of an NTSC program ending. It takes awhile longer for ATSC (HDTV). VideoRedo can't be used until the program is finished recording. I have found Comskip to be much faster and more accurate than VideoRedo for commercials. VideoRedo is a great program for editing though.

See this thread for more info and a script idea for using Comskip in the "live" mode: Comskip on live TV?

DISCLAIMER: I have found that using Comskip in the "live" mode is very inaccurate in BTV 4.3 and 4.4. It still works well in 4.2 which is the version I'm sticking with for now. I'm hoping there will be a fix some day, but the developer doesn't appear to be working on this problem. See http://mk.kaashoek.com/comskip/viewtopic.php?t=147.

The same thing happened to me, that is I had comskip and SA working using Dirmon2 in version 4.2 but when I upgraded to 4.3 I could not get it to work on live files.

I have used comskip, SA and Ad-Detective extensively. I have also used comskip and SA in the live mode, meaning it was detecting commercials during the recording. IME over a broad range of shows Ad-Detective is the best for finding scene changes, however this is not true if you use the 'Fast' mode.

Comskip and SA are about the same but SA has more options and can be considerably faster than comskip.

Until recently I used the Vprj file generated by comskip and SA that just marked the beginning and ending of the commercial segment. I was happy with that until I used Ad-Detective to generate a Vprj file that had the scene markers. IMO with VideoReDo and thumbnails enabled scene markers are faster and more accurate for confirming commercial cuts.

We can debate which is better comskip or SA or Ad-Detective but there is no debate regarding SmartChapter...it is nearly worthless.

Re: Show Analyzer

I've been using Comskip for quite a while and have done a lot of tuning of the comskip.ini file. I now have it working nearly 100% perfect. It almost NEVER has inaccurate commercial markings.

Here is a link to my configuration files and batch file that kicks of the detection:

http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/show...95&postcount=7

*EDIT* You can also use this configuration with AutoXvid, leecole's excellent BTV addon, which can be configured to use Comskip to do commercial detection.
