Weird keyboard problems

Ok, I just bought a IR wireless keyboard with a built in mouse trackball. OMG does this make my life so much easier!

Anyway, a weird problem I am having is that sometimes, when I start typing, the keyboard goes into a kind of shortcut mode. For instance, when I hit the L button, it will go to the logoff screen, or if I hit the r button, the run command will pop up. Its like the computer thinks I am hitting windows key with the button presses. But i am not, just a single keyboard press.

Has anyone else expierienced this? If so, what can I do to fix it?

Re: Weird keyboard problems

I have a couple of keyboard/mouse combos (RF) and I also think they are great (my kids actually use them more than the remote). Anyway, the keyboard portions on mine are similar to laptop keyboards where a "fn" key is involved (along with ctrl, alt, shift), and sometimes it is combination of these keys. Is it possible that one of these keys are stuck on ?

Re: Weird keyboard problems

I got a BTC RF wireless (which has a mini "joystick" pointing device), and on surfing I found many of them had an assembly flaw in that the left Shift key also sent the "Windows key". Luckily, it was an easy fix. Probably not what you're experiencing though.

Most likely, you're seeing a timing problem with the key codes coming from the wireless. You're typing just a bit faster than the driver can "translate".

Try this: in Control Panel, open "Accessibility Options", Keyboard tab. For each of the three options, go into "Settings", and turn off "Use shortcut". Then make sure the "Use <option>" checkbox in that dialog are also unchecked. StickyKeys is the worst, and if Windows gets itself into "sticky" mode that can really mess you up.
The above may or may not be causing your problem (might just be crappy drivers), but I usually find on the machines I work with, eventually I get bitten by StickyKeys until I disable it.

Brad.

Re: Weird keyboard problems

I will try what you suggested bpsmicro and let you know.

I can replicate my problem by pressing the windows key and 'r' for example, so I think you might be right that my keybords windows key might 'stick'.

This is the keyboard I bought, in case anyone was wondering. http://www.ats-systems.com/store/det...UCT_ID=9051157

It says it's RF but it's actually IR.
