Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

This may be a small niggle but i thought i'd see if anybody else has seen this.

When i record a tv show there seems to be an issue with the right hand side showing a black line bigger in size to the left.

What could be causing this?

Check out my signature for what gear i'm using. I've also included a screenshot also as it's hard to explain exactly and for comparison.

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

Is it only the video or is it the full screen interface, also, that does this?

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

It's only on the video when viewed out of the BTV interface.

It occurs in whatever app i use, be it Powerdvd, WMP etc

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

So it sounds like your video output is not centered and scaled properly on your display, since this is happening with all video output (not just BTV). This is a video card configuration issue, not BTV.

Most video cards have a configuration page where you can adjust the display position, size, etc. What model of video card are you using and how are you outputting to your display device?

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

I've an ATI X800 XT going to a Dell 24" 2405FWP.

I don't know how changing the video card setting will help. Wouldn't that just change the orientation of the display on the desktop? I went looking around in Catalyst Control Center and found nothing relating to fixing my issue.

Any idea what else it could be or where to make a change like you mention?

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

Perhaps Overlay settings in the display driver configuration pages?

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

Go into Settings --> Playback Settings -- click on Adjust Display at the bottom.

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

I've done that but still the same.

It seems that my tv tuner card is capturing the picture from the Sky tv box over s-video as well as those 2 lines, more pronounced on the right side.

Does this happen to anybody else with any other capture card?

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

I don't think it's your video card. What recording settings are you using? You might want to try adjust the video size in the settings.

Re: Recorded Video Screen Placement Issue

I agree. It definitely sounds like the capture device is just capturing the video, this way, perhaps because your capturing over S-Video and the satellite box is actually outputting this way. When hooked to a television, you wouldn't see this, because of overscan, but when capturing without overscan, you're seeing the negative space that would normally not be visible.
