DIVX Codec

When I play shows that have been compressed with DIVX, scrolling text seems to be fuzzy. Which codec to people recommend? The default from SS? Download it from divx.com? or just using the xvid codec?

What version of BTV are you using ? If you encode or play it in BTV, you have to use the BTV supplied codec.

What bitrate are you re-encoding to? The lower the bitrate the fuzzier the text will be.

As a side note, and this is just my opinion, it seems like such a waste to take good mpeg2 recorded with a PVR250 or 500 and re-encode. Cut the commercials and save 25-30% on the file size and forget divx. Hard drive space is cheap!

Not true, I have used the xvid codec for a long time with BTV (for files encoded by BTV)

Re: DIVX Codec

You are using a decent bitrate. I have not used xvid but I have used the latest divx codec and the text is still fuzzy at 3800.

I forgot about the xvid plugin. I was just thinking about using showsqueeze natively in BTV What version of BTV are you using ?

Re: DIVX Codec

I wonder if this is more an ecoding issue rather than a codec issue?

I believe that BTV 4.2 and prior is using a 5.X divx decoder
