Media Center Receiver Service Error

I have installed snapstream beyond tv 3.8. I can see the tv and hear the audio.

My OS is Media Center 2002 with service pack 2.

I'm using the ADS Instant HDTV Tuner.

I'm going to try recording a 1/2 hour show in about 6 mintues. But in the mean time I have an error pop window that doesn't go away.

It says:
______________________________

Media Center Receiver Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.

We have created and error report... (blah, blah, blah)

______________________________
Whether I click on DEBUG, or SEND ERROR REPORT, or DON'T SEND, the pop up error window keeps coming back.

How can I fix this?

I'll post another post if I can't record.

Re: Media Center Receiver Service Error

Refer to this article -- to Disable that part of MCE -- which is causing issues with BTV.

According to this article, it doesn't happen on versions before MCE 2005.

It says, "Note that this does not occur with versions of MCE prior to 2005."

Do I still need to do this?

My version is MCE 2002 with service pack 2.

3 Questions - Re: Media Center Receiver Service Error

I did the instructions anyway and it looks like that fixed it.

I have a few more questions if you don't mind.

1. Since I disabled that in Media Center, did I lose out on anything? I mean what did that affect?

2. I found out that the recording works after fideling with it for awhile. Do you recommend a particular mPeg2 decoder for playback?

My options are: Snapstream Video SP decoder, Nero DVD decoder, Intervideo Video decoder, Snapstream Basic Decoder.

And last of my 3 questions:
3. Going through the Beyond TV wizard I can choose to use my Media Center RC or my ADS RC that came with my ADS instant hdtv tuner. Which do you recommend and why?

Thanks in advance for your help. This was a completely new PC experience for me and it took about 18 hours to get it fixed.

Wheewhhhh!

Why are you using the funky font?

Based on this post above it seems like you have solved your problem. Then in the next post you say you opened up a ticket and haven't received a response. Could you tell us whether you still have an issue or not?
Thanks

That's what I thought. The pop up error is fixed regarding this particular thread. I was hoping somebody could answer those 3 questions.

But as I continued to use the program I found out I have intermittent video problems. Please see this thread:
http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/showthread.php?t=32134
and respond there please.

Re: Media Center Receiver Service Error

Hey peoples,

I just got the error too. Sure, turning off the service is a fix for those who don't use it, but it's essential for running my TV tuner card. However, it turns out that uninstalling my codec pack did the trick (The-Codecs pack). Codec packs always cause trouble for me. From now on I'm installing my codecs 1 by 1 as I need em.

Goodluck peoples.

Re: Media Center Receiver Service Error

By the way, you likely DO have MCE 2005. You're looking at the OS version (2002 is XP) not the MCE version which is seen ONLY in the MCE interface.

Re: Media Center Receiver Service Error

True that -- MCE 2005 is XP SP2.
