AVI files, squeezed in the midle :(

Hi All,

I'm having a strange problem. My WMV files play back fine but the AVI ones (from showsqueeze) play as if the images are squeezed in the middle

For example, the regular file (WMV) would be like this:

---------------------------
_1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0_
_1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0_
_1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0_
_1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0_
_1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0_
_1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0_
---------------------------

The AVI one plays like this:

---------------------------
____1234567890____
____1234567890____
____1234567890____
____1234567890____
____1234567890____
____1234567890____
---------------------------

In other words, the image is squeezed with black bars on the side. Kind of like when you would see a full screen movie playing on a widescreen TV.

I have attached two screens if you want to see what it looks like.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had seen that before with some files I got from friends and had to get a different player/codec to fix that.
I see that whether I play it with WindowsMedia Player or with Snapstream.

Many thanks for your time,

Ismenio

Re: AVI files, squeezed in the midle :(

you could change your qhow squeeze wvm type or make a new one to save to in advanced settings at: http://localhost:8129/Default.aspx

You could simply go to the tool bar while viewing the movie and click expand picture...

There is a lot to learn

Perhaps you just need to change the aspect ratio? On my 4:3 system, DivX and Xvid files always play back with proper aspect ratio, when I have it set to Auto. If I had 16:9, I'm not sure how they would come through, if set to automatic.

Re: AVI files, squeezed in the midle :(

They take up the full screen on my TVs, and I think that I have the aspect ratio set to stretch

You've got some seriously funny shaped pixels if you expect 'non square' compensation to be causing THAT much shrinking
