Re: Why can Orb do it but BTV can't?
btdown,
Could you please explain what streaming MPEG over Internet Explorer has to do with BTV Link? And also please explain what is so "horrible" about BTV Link? It works absolutely amazingly for me. I can view LiveTV from a hardware capture card (MPEG recording) just fine. I'm very confused by your post. |

Re: Why can Orb do it but BTV can't?
BTVLink is incredible. It's the number 1 feature of BTV over MCE. I use it all over our house.
I get frustrated with blanket statements like 'horrible' without explanation. |

Re: Why can Orb do it but BTV can't?
Incredible---NOT. It may work fine in your house, but it does not work over the internet. Internet streaming is one of the biggest requested features, yet its the biggest area where their product is deficient, If they had Orb type capabilities, it would be the hands down top pvr software.

it is only deficient if it was designed for internet streaming which i don't think it was. now internet streaming might be A requested feature but not the most requested feature. |

Re: Why can Orb do it but BTV can't?
For those of us that use BTV link in the way it was designed, it is incredible. It was designed, and is sold as a solution for a home network:
http://www.snapstream.com/products/b...HowItWorks.asp Would it be great if it also streamed over the internet ? You bet it would, but that isn't how it currently works. If you want it to change, put in a tech support request. http://snapstream.helpserve.com/

Re: Why can Orb do it but BTV can't?
No, it's not impossible. Everything has a downside. Take a look at CPU utilization on your host PC while streaming video over the Internet with Orb. If you have ever used Link, look at CPU utilization on your BTV server while streaming via Link.

Re: Why can Orb do it but BTV can't?
BTV link is kick A....its only weakness IMO is inabilty to stream video outside of the home network....if this isn't addressed in an upgrade, SS will lose market share to those who do.

Re: Why can Orb do it but BTV can't?
Personally, I don't care to stream TV while at work. Why? Because I'm working at work!
![]() If I traveled a lot, then Internet streaming would be very useful, but not a deal breaker for me. I'd just use Orb to stream my recordings. I could care less about streaming liveTV.
