Adaptec AVC-3610 quality?

Currently one of my tuners is a all-in-wonder and since it is software encoding, it just doesn't work that well. I'm thinking of replacing it with a USB encoder and two is better than one.

So does anyone have any input on the quality and support in BTV for the Adaptec AVC-3610?

TIA

Re: Adaptec AVC-3610 quality?

I used 2 Adaptec Vide-OH! Media Centre USB tuners for a while. The picture was extremely clean and overall the units worked well, but my USB bus would just die every so often, requiring a reboot, meaning that I have since retired them.

As for the tuner itself, the odd thing I found was that unlike all of the other tuners I've tried, it recorded audio in Linear PCM rather than in MPEG-1 (even when told to do otherwise), which caused an increase in file sizes a bit and caused me to have to re-encode the audio when archiving to DVD. Otherwise no real problems.

Re: Adaptec AVC-3610 quality?

I just got the HP AVC-3610 yestarday (same as the adaptec) and so far the only strange thing I've noticed is the audio is lower for the 3610 compared to my other tuners.

I'm going to have to study it a bit more to see the quality of the recordings.

Re: Adaptec AVC-3610 quality?

Just this morning put one in.
Everything seems to work fine.
Both Tuners showed in Config just fine.
Using Default settings throughout BTV4 and the Video looks great; even while
recording on all 4 and also watching a recording;the CPU usage was about 47%.
