Horrible interlacing with WMV
So I am in an environment that is Windows Media only and ever since I upgraded to 3.7.4, I have had the worst interlacing issues with Windows Meida files. It seems like the "De-interlace" dropdown box in the configuration does absolutely nothing.
Also, from time to time my recordings will just not record with audio. I end up having to reboot the machine to get the audio back! Has anyone seens this? I'm using the SB Audigy 2 with the ATI AIW VE. Please help...this is driving me crazy...Oh and I also tried to upgrade to 4.1 and I still have the same issues. |

I suppose you directly record in WMV and as such I don't know if the video is deinterlaced but someone else can confirm this to you. However, when showsqueezing, the "Deinterlace" option should have some effects but not the one you might want. Basically WMV can: * not deinterlace * half height deinterlace (dropping a field), single frame rate * full frame height deinterlace, single frame rate (blending the fields) * half frame height, double frame rate. In any way you'll have a video deinterlaced as you can have with MPEG2 decoders. I think that BTV is only capable of doing full frame height, single frame rate blending fields deinterlace. So this result in blurry video durring panning scenes or with moving objects (in fact you'll see double edges objects but no jaggies). Regards, Stéphane.

Re: Horrible interlacing with WMV
I understand that WM9 has the capability for deinterlacing if I'm not mistaken. This worked great on version 3.4 but I upgraded to 3.7.4 and 4.1 and both of these version completely messed up the video.
I am running the latest drivers for all my cards too. I don;t use showsqueeze, I record directly to WMV. This should not be a problem since I am using a software based encoding card and plenty of power (2.8ghz Xeon). Does anyone else have this issue? |

I think this is because you have to configure the WMV encoder to support interlacing (and not all configuration support it) and doing some magic pass over your CPU while your cat is out under the full moon (just kidding but you'll get my point if you try to use the feature in Windows Media Encoder). So this is not surprising if BTV interlaced WMV recorded videos are not deinterlaced during playback (I also think that the video card should know that it must deinterlace but I don't know how to tell it to do so). Sorry I can't help you more on this issue (either than telling you that WMV was designed for progressive video first). Regards, Stéphane.
