The 1080=bad but 720=good issue.

I searched the forums, and a number of people have this problem. I can't find any who had a real solution to the problem yet.

Does snapstream have any official position or information on this? I could find no KB article when searching for "1080" or "1080i"

Obviously I am also one with the problem. Hardware is in sig.

720 is brilliant, perfect, couldn't nitpick and find a problem if I tried.

1080 is watchable, but stutters/motion blurs annoying enough to make you prefer SD instead.

I should mention I personally watch HD on a SD set (s-video out). I have tried watching the HD feeds on 2 other computers in my house via BTV link, but they both stutter worse, regardless of resolution. But that is another story....

For anyone who experianced this: First have you fixed it, and what fixed it?

thanks in advance

Re: The 1080=bad but 720=good issue.

I have mostly the same setup as you, but I have a 5200 (and no PureVideo). 1080 is sometime ok, but sometimes unwatchable. I'm not sure if weather conditions affect the quality of the signal, but it's one of my thoughts. I do have a better antenna waiting to be mounted outside when it warms up a little bit. Right now I have the one that came with the SS package & the Dvico lite card.

720 is definitely better than 1080 for me.. It's never really entirely stutter-free, but it's close.

One bizaare thing is that during the Olympics, the only times it got unwatchable was during the figure-skating (which drove my wife crazy).. Maybe it wasn't the HD that was making it unwatchable, though...

Edit: I also forgot to mention that I also watch HD on an SD set.. Not that that makes any difference..

Re: The 1080=bad but 720=good issue.

Asking for an official position from SS is not a good idea here (its against the Forum rules - SS support doesn't patrol the Forums). If you haven't had any luck with the other threads available, I'd suggest opening up a support ticket and see if they can help.

Re: The 1080=bad but 720=good issue.

dallas, I see in your sig a 6200 video card. When I was testing my HD setup I saw this exact problem when using a 6200 w/ 128MB. Turns out it doesn't support HD MPEG2 accelerated decode. See this chart for reference: http://www.nvidia.com/page/purevideo_support.html

If your board has 256MB then you maybe okay, I've seen at least one person with a 6200/256MB post that it worked fine with 1080.

I can play 1080 content just fine with any player besides beyond TV. Of course I could do that with a 2d Business card too. Beyond just seems to be an inefficient MPEG player.

I see there is a new version of Purevideo out yesterday that fixes 1080 specific problems, maybe this will clear everything up for me.

Re: The 1080=bad but 720=good issue.

I'm seeing better results with the latest Purevideo decoder as well, but one thing I've noticed is that some of my recordings look kind of grainy using it. For example, one show (Deal or No Deal) looked okay with the Snapstream decoder but looked grainy and almost like it was on film rather than videotape.

Anyone seen this issue and have any recommendations?

Re: The 1080=bad but 720=good issue.

what purevideo settings are you using? Are you using the 84.12 drivers? Also, is the VMR or Overlay mode? I have never had problems in Overlay but highly prefer VMR.
